Kemerovo state university.

I’m a student of economics faculty

Kemerovo State University is not old but it has its own history and rich experience in modern education. It was founded in 1954 and was called Kemerovo Pedagogical Institute. It was awarded the status of University in 1974. The University is headed by the rector Sviridova Irina Albertovna. The administrative work of the University is also coordinated by the vice-rectors. Each of them controls the particular area of activity at every University subdivision.

Now there are 12 faculties at the University: Philology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, History, Foreign Languages, Social Psychology, Law, Economics, Sports, Political Sciences and Sociology. The most part of the faculties have full-time and part-time departments.

To enter the University it is necessary to take entrance exams. The academic year begins in September and ends in June. It consists of two semesters with the examinations at the end of each one. If examinations are successfully passed the students get grant.

Kemerovo State University is famous for its distinguished staff.

There are six buildings which belong to Kemerovo State University. The most part of them, including the main building, are conveniently located at the centre of the city, within walking distance from each other. The exception is the building of Mathematics Faculty situated many quarters far from the University campus.

University provides accommodation for its students who came from other towns. Three student hostels on campus are available only for full-time students; one of them is mostly for married students. The housing is provided for the period of studying at the University.

After five years of study students are to take final examinations and defend the diploma project. A University diploma gives an excellent opportunity for the graduates to find a good job. If a graduate is interested in scientific work he may continue his education in any field at postgraduate level

I study at the faculty of economics. The Dean of our faculty is the Doctor of Economics, professor Buvaltseva V. I. She heads the faculty and is responsible for the general management of the faculty. The Dean is assisted by the three Sub-Deans (the Sub-Dean for academic affairs, the Sub-Dean for student affairs and the Sub-Dean for external and continuing education).

The Economics Faculty has six departments: finance and credit, tax and taxation, management and marketing, regional economy, economics departments. They train students in different specialized fields. The academic staff consists of highly qualified teachers and professors. They prepare specialists combining teaching and research. Many of them have got a degree in economics.

It takes 5 years to graduate from the University. After five years of study students are to take final examinations and defend the diploma project.

The subject matter of economics

Economics is the science that deals with the production, distribution and consumption of wealth and with various related problems of labour, finance and taxation etc. Economics is concerned with the economy and economic systems. The economic system determines how the nation’s resources of land, labour, machinery and raw materials are allocated and used. The problem of allocating resources is a central theme of economics, because most resources are scarce. The allocation of scarce resources and the distribution of the product of those resources are a major part of the subject matter of economics. So, much of our everyday experience is related to economics.

Economists cannot study separately the behaviour of every individual in a large population. Instead, they make assumptions and build economic models. On the basis of these models they predict economic events.

Economics is connected with such sciences as psychology, history, law, political science, accounting, engineering, mathematics and statistics.

Economists divide economic systems into groups. Western economies are based on market economic systems in which economic events are the outcome of individual decisions. Planned or centralized economic systems are those, in which economic decisions are taken by government planners. If government planners take some of the most important economic decisions, the economy is mixed. In practice, every economic system is mixed to some extent.
