1. - I know that you've travelled a lot. Where in the world have you most en joyed visiting?
- Well, I've enjoyed going almost anywhere India, China each place has its own charm and I'm hoping to see lots more.
2. - You really enjoy reading, Mary, don't you?
- Yes, I do very much. I'm a prolific reader. 
- Can you tell me the title and the author of one of your favourite books? 
- Well, it's very difficult to pinpoint a favourite book, but I suppose "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Kollins particularly sticks in my mind. 
3. - Shall we invite Steve for a picnic?
- Oh, I don't think he'll go. Steve has become a real coach potato. For him every activity is too much trouble and laziness is an art form. 
- Yes, it seems lying on the sofa, watching TV on Sunday afternoon, and reading newspaper from cover to cover is the most exciting activity he can imagine. 
4. - Do you believe in horoscopes?
- No, I never read them. 
- What is your zodiac sign? 
- Libra. 
- So, you must be reliable, well-balanced, practical and rather realistic. That's why you don't believe in horoscopes. 
5. - What do you usually do to raise your spirits?
- I go shopping. I adore it and I go shopping for clothes at least twice a month. And If I haven't got any money I go window shopping and decide what I'm going to buy when I'm rich.
5. Translate the sentences from Russian into English.
- Народы мира такие разные. Итальянцы открытые, они ценят семейные отношения, а англичане считаются сдержанными людьми, которые не любят выносить сор из избы (wash out one's dirty linen in public). 
- Нина и Вера - близнецы и, естественно, очень похожи внешне друг на друга. Но они совершенно не похожи по характеру. Нина спокойная, от- 
крытая, приветливая. А Вера - довольно замкнутая, сдержанная. С ней не очень-то легко иметь дело. Но ее друзья говорят, что Вера - это тот человек, на которого можно полностью положиться.
- В нашей группе учится один молодой человек, внешне ничем не примечательный. Но когда я узнала его лучше (to come to know), то поразилась его разносторонним интересам и способностям. Тут-то я и убедилась в правильности пословицы "По одежке встречают, по уму провожают" (Appearances can be deceptive). 
- Что вы делаете в свободное время? - Честно говоря, у меня его не так много. Но если выпадает свободный час или два, стараюсь читать книжные новинки. Моя страсть - исторические романы. 
- Представляешь, вчера был в гостях у Игоря. Его комната - настоящая радиомастерская. Он сам собирает приемники. У него просто золотые руки. 
- В детстве я мечтала заниматься художественной гимнастикой (callisthenics), но мои родители отвели меня в секцию фигурного катания (figure skating). К сожалению, у меня не было особых способностей, поэтому я оставила спорт, но всегда вспоминаю о катке с удовольствием.
