Section 1 morning discussion

Morning discussion is one of the most challenging teaching methods, which can be also one of the most rewarding.
The aims of morning discussion are:
- to stimulate critical thinking;
- to train spontaneous speech;
- to develop monological skills.
As you establish a rapport with your students, you can demonstrate that you appreciate their contributions at the same time that you challenge them to think more deeply and to articulate their ideas more clearly. Frequent questions, whether asked by you or by the students, provide a means of measuring learning and exploring in-depth the key concepts of the course.
There are some rules for preparing and holding the discussion:
- Create a comfortable, non-threatening environment.
- Get to know your students and the skills and perspectives they bring to the discussions.
- Clarify the rules and expectations for discussions at the outset.
- Communicate to students the importance of discussion to their success in the course as a whole.
- Plan and prepare the discussion.
- Accommodate different learning preferences.
- Provide a structure.
- At appropriate points in the session, summarize the major ideas and write them on the board.
- Combine discussions with other methods.
- Integrate student responses into the discussion without making the discussion merely a student-teacher interaction.
- Use verbal and non-verbal cues to encourage participation.
- Create a balance between controlling the group dynamic and letting group members speak.
- Show respect for all questions and comments.
- Do not answer your own questions.

Today I’d like to formulate together with you the necessary steps how to protect yourselves from criminals. Despite the fact that we live not in megalopolis and crimes are not committed every minute in our town, every person should be informed about this.
Do you know that people of 25-30 years old have greater probability to become a victim, irrespective to sex and race. Thus it is very important theme for us.
If someone is pursuing orchasing you, what will be your first steps:
Give your opinion, please.
- Be sure that you have not got persecution mania.

- Analise the situation – is he really a maniac, criminal or he wants to get acquainted with you.
- Be in a crowd, find crowded places.
- Phone police, relatives, let someone know where you are.
The assault situation when the conflict is inevitable
1)Don’t be afraid. Speak tough-be self-assured, confident – to persuade him.
Psychologists state that sacrificial, hesitating behavior of victim becomes very often the reason for many assaults-attacks. There is a special branch of criminalistics victimology studies the relationships between victims and offenders and gives pieces of advice how to behave in this or that situation. Sometimes people cause or even provoke the aggressor.
2) Run away.
It’s widely known that the best method in self-defense is running.
3) Call the police. In average it takes 5-10 min for police to come – so mind the time

5) Crash the shop-window or anything of glass material which makes violent noise
Do you know the most vulnerable parts of body. Please, enumerate them: eyes, groin, neck, solar plexus
Do you know any self-defense weapon. Enumerate it.
Gas bottle – pepper and that of 2 kinds chemical – they influence badly on drunk people and dogs
Stun gun in the form of mobile phones, electric pocket torch

Can we define the criminal by his appearance? Are they usually pleasant or on the contrary disgusting?
In conclusion I would like to say that we made a great job and by a joint effort we formulated the main schemes of self-defense. As the sportsmen are fond of this joke – master of sports in box can never win the master of sports in running – he will never catch up with him. So, remember this golden rule and never get in a trouble.
