Solanum nigrum L. (Common Name: Makoy)
Plant Part: Fruit.
Solvent System: Toluene: ethyl acetate: formic acid (10: 10: 2 v/v/v).
Adsorbent: TLC Silica gel 60F
(Merck).

Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg of the sample dissolved in 10 mL methanol, sonicated and centrifuged. 10 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Used as tonic, laxative, appetite stimulant, for treating asthma and liver disease (3).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Makoy represents bands of phytochemicals at 254 nm and 366 nm (Fig. 106a, b).

Plant Part: Aerial part.
Solvent System: Ethyl acetate: toluene: formic acid (5: 5: 0.5 v/v/v).
Adsorbent: TLC Silica gel 60F
(Merck).

Standard Solution Preparation: 10 mg of apigenin and caffeic acid was dissolved in 10 mL of methanol. 10 μL of the standard solution was applied on the TLC plate.
Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg sample dissolved in 10 mL methanol, sonicated and centrifuged.10 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Used to treat fever, cough, sore throat, and urinary track disorders (1).
Conclusion: HPTLC image confirms the identification of marker apigenin and caffeic acid at Rf 0.45 and 0.52 with respect to standards in Chhoti kateli (Fig. 107a, b).

Plant Part: Whole plant.
Solvent System: Chloroform: methanol: formic acid (7: 3: 0.5 v/v/v).
Adsorbent: TLC Silica gel 60F
(Merck).

Standard Solution Preparation: 10 mg of lancerin was dissolved in 10 mL of methanol. 10 μL of the standard solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg of sample dissolved in 10 mL methanol, sonicated and centrifuged. 4 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Used to treat fever and intestinal worms; also have anti­malarial property (2).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Chirayita shows the presence of lancerin in the sample at 0.56 Rf (Fig. 108a, b).

Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Clove shows a specific banding pattern at 254 nm and 366 nm (Fig. 109a, b).

Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg sample dissolved in 10 mL methanol sonicated and centrifuged.10 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Derivatizing Reagent: Anisaldehyde sulfuric acid.
Medicinal Value: The plant has cardiovascular, antioxidant and anti-
inflammatory properties (1).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Arjun shows the presence of arjunic acid at Rf
0.70 with respect to the standard (Fig. 110a, b).

Standard Solution Preparation: 10 mg of gallic acid was dissolved in 10 mL of methanol. 20 μL of the standard solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Sample Solution Preparation: 1000 mg sample dissolved in 10 mL methanol sonicated and centrifuged. 6 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Used in skin disorder, fever, indigestion and cough.
Conclusion: HPTLC image confirms the identification of signature marker gallic acid at Rf 0.61, with respect to standard (Fig. 111a, b).
