Plant Part: Leaves.

Standard Solution Preparation: 10 mg of gallic acid was dissolved in 10 mL of
methanol. 10 μL of standard solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg sample dissolved in 10 mL methanol
sonicated and centrifuged. 4 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: It has antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
properties.
Conclusion: HPTLC image confirms the identification of bio-active marker gallic
acid at Rf 0.41, with respect to gallic acid standard (Fig. 52a, b).

Plant Part: Fruit.
Solvent System: Toluene: ethyl acetate (7: 3 v/v).
Adsorbent: TLC Silica gel 60F
(Merck).

Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg of sample dissolved in 10 mL water:
methanol (70: 30), sonicated and centrifuged. 8μL of the solution was applied on
a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Used to treat respiratory diseases like cough, bronchial asthma
and also useful in tuberculosis (3).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Rudanti shows fluorescent bands at 366 nm
and blue colored bands under white light after derivatization (Fig. 53a, b).

Solvent System: Chloroform: methanol (8: 2 v/v):

Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg of sample dissolved in 10 mL water:
methanol (70: 30 v/v) sonicated and centrifuged. 10 μL of the solution was
applied on TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Useful in ear infection, skin problems, arthritis; it is
anthelminthic (3).
Conclusion: Specific patterns of phytochemicals were observed in 254 nm and
blue fluorescent bands were observed under 366 nm in HPTLC fingerprint of
Sudarshan (Fig. 54a, b).

Standard Solution Preparation: 10 mg of psoralen was dissolved in 10 mL of
methanol. 1 μL of standard solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg of the sample dissolved in 10 mL
methanol sonicated and centrifuged. 8 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC
plate.
Medicinal Value: Used to treat various skin problems, and promote hair growth
and digestion (2).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of bakuchi matches with reference standard,
showing specific band of bio-active marker psoralen at 0.61 Rf (Fig. 55a, b).

sonicated and centrifuged. 8 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Medicinal Value: Useful in skin and acne problem, improves digestion, improves
cardiac health and boost immunity (2).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Cumin captured at 254 nm, 366 nm showing
bands of phytochemicals at 254 nm and fluorescent bands at 366 nm (Fig. 56a, b).

Curcuma longa L. (Common Name: Turmeric)
Plant Part: Rhizome.
Solvent System: Toluene: acetic acid (4: 1 v/v).
Adsorbent: TLC Silica gel 60F

Standard Solution Preparation: 10 mg of each curcumenoids was dissolved in
10 mL of methanol. 2 μL of the standard solution was applied on a TLC plate.
Sample Solution Preparation: 500 mg of the sample dissolved in 10 mL of
methanol, sonicated and centrifuged. 6 μL of the solution was applied on a TLC
plate.
Medicinal Value: Useful in cough, and skin diseases and improves liver function.
It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (3).
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint validates the presence of signature marker
components in Turmeric. Samples showing the bands of marker compounds at
0.27 (Bisdemethoxycurcumin), 0.38 (Demethoxycurcumin) and 0.53 (Curcumin)
Rf with respect to the standard compounds (Fig. 57a, b).

methanol, sonicated and centrifuged. 12 μL of the solution was applied on TLC
plate.
Medicinal Value: Useful in indigestion, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Conclusion: HPTLC fingerprint of Nagarmotha shows specific binding pattern at
254 nm and 366 nm (Fig. 58a, b).
