Alcohol is the most commonly used and misused substance among
older adults. Although incidence levels are lower than among younger
adults, there is an upward trend in the number of older people consuming alcohol and meeting criteria for alcohol use disorder (AUD). Stigma
about alcohol use from families and clinicians can serve as an obstacle
in identifying and treating AUDs. Good pharmacological and psychosocial treatments are available for older adults, with outcomes similar
to those of younger adults. In this chapter, we describe the various alcohol misuse terminology, epidemiology of alcohol use, and AUD. We
