PREFACE
It gives us immense pleasure to place before the pharmacy students our humble work on pharmaceutical
organic chemistry, which has been written strictly in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the All India
Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) for the students of all Indian
universities. Our aim in writing this book has been to present the fundamental principles of organic chemistry
for pharmacy students on modern lines. None of the pharmacy books available in the market covers the revised
syllabus entirely. Keeping in view the requirements of the students and the teachers, this book has been written
to cover all the topics within the desired limits of the prescribed syllabus. It is hoped that the book will meet the
requirements of the organic chemistry students at large.
Based on the vast teaching experience of the authors, the text has been prepared in a simple, lucid and
comprehensive style. The manuscript has been presented as if the teacher is talking to the students in the classroom. Throughout the text special care has been taken to add Memory Focus boxes at relevant stages to help the
students revise the subject matter quickly. Textboxes with special information/knowledge titled as Remember,
Learning Plus and Noteworthy Points have been added to highlight the important points.
Here is a book that resolves all the queries and doubts of organic chemistry students. It provides them the
fundamentals of pharmaceutical organic chemistry, which are required by them as a pharmacist. The book will
not only help them to score better in the examination but also develop their skills to apply their knowledge of
pharmaceutical organic chemistry in solving the problems that they may face during their pharmaceutical career.
We express sincere thanks to the authors and publishers whose works have been consulted in producing this
book. Acknowledgements are also due to the editorial team of Elsevier for their sustained interest during the
publication of this book.
Although care has been taken while preparing and processing the manuscript, yet errors and misprints might
have crept in. We shall be grateful to the students and teachers who would be kind enough to send their suggestions
for further improvement of the book.
We shall consider our efforts amply rewarded if all those for whom the book is intended are beneted by it.
