their appearance compared with those who have a symmetrization procedure after radiation, where the contralateral
breast is typically reduced or lifted while the radiation typically precludes and enhancement of the ipsilateral breast.
Furthermore, oncoplastic surgery can be performed in a
primary, immediate, or delayed fashion. To avoid a mastectomy if margins are inadequate, a delayed approach can be
oered with minimal risk to delaying any subsequent adjuvant care. Additional technology is on the horizon that can
provide intraoperative margin assessment that will increase
the success rate of BCS at the initial denitive surgery, or
devices such as BioZorb that can aid in locating the lumpectomy bed if a re-excision is required.
