Exfoliation Syndrome and Exfoliative Glaucoma

Exfoliation syndrome is the most common identifiable cause of open-angle glaucoma worldwide (1). It is a systemic disorder with important eye manifestations, including development of openand closedangle glaucoma and of cataract with zonular instability (Table 15.1, Fig. 15.1A, and Fig. 15.2) (2). It may also be associated with increased systemic risk of cardiovascular disorders (3). In this chapter, we present an epidemiologic, clinical, and pathophysiologic overview of exfoliation syndrome and exfoliative glaucoma.
