200 UVEAL TRACT AND OCULAR INFLAMMATION

Treat with immunosuppression: usually steroids first, then other agents such as cyclosporine (T-cell mediated disease); typically flares less than 1 year.

Surgery

CATARACT SURGERY IN UVEITIC PATIENTS Usually wait until the eye is quiet for at least 6 months. Surgery is often complicated by small pupils and rebound uveitis. In general, avoid IOLs in JRA and VKH. Consider sulcus placement of IOL to prevent posterior synechiae to the anterior capsule. Often need aggressive immunosuppression with corticosteroids (oral, periocular, or topical) prior to and following cataract surgery.
