may be used as an adjunct to stain the anterior capsule for

cataract surgery; preparation involves adding 0.5 cc of the

aqueous solvent into the power vial. After shaking, dilute

this with 4.5 cc of balanced salt solution to bring total

volume to 5 cc (Arch Ophthalmol 1998;116:535–537). Must

be used within 10 hours of mixing.

Should be avoided in patients with a history of allergy to

iodine containing products
