In most cases, open-angle glaucoma can be safely and effectively treated with medication. In rare cases when this is not possible, surgery can be done.

In co-author Dr. Marc Grossman's office, the treatment strategy used with Trish included choices 1 and 2 above in conjunction with some of the recommendations in the Glaucoma Prevention Program. During the past six years Trish's eye pressure has stabilized to approximately 17 (right eye) and 16 (left eye), and she has never had to be on any medication for her eyes.

GLAUCOME PREVENTION PROGRAM

Vision Diet

Follow the Vision Diet in Chapter 1 as closely as

 

possible.

 

 

 

Beneficial foods include fresh fruits and vegetables

 

(especially kale, collards, mustard greens and

 

spinach) and cold water fish such as salmon,

 

mackerel or sardines.

 

 

Avoid refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, fried

 

foods, excess fats (especially saturated and

 

hydrogenated fats), alcohol, caffeinated and

 

carbonated beverages.

 

 

Drink 810 glasses of water per day, but not with food

 

30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal.

See the Appendix, pp. 13138 for location of points. Herbal Take the combination formula of Chinese, Western Remedies and Ayurvedic herbs (Hsiao Wan Yao plus other

herbs) available from Integral Health Apothecary and Starfire International (see Resources). Take 12 Hsiao Wan Yao pills and 1 teaspoon of the combination herb tincture twice per day.

HomeopathicConsult a trained homeopath who can recommend Remedies the appropriate constitutional remedy for you to

alleviate your glaucoma.

Exercises Do 20 minutes of both aerobic and eye exercises at least four times per week (see Chapter 1).

Spinal Consult a qualified chiropractor or osteopath to Manipulationmake sure that the spine and neck are free from any

energy blocks that might cause poor circulation and, thus, lack of energy to the eyes.

Light Wear blue-green and/or indigo color therapy glasses 20 minutes per day. Also, if possible, contact a doctor trained in Syntonic Therapy (light/color therapy for vision conditions). See Resources.

Emotional The emotions most associated with glaucoma are Health stress, suppressed anger and frustration. Try

meditation, tai chi, yoga, psychotherapy or biofeedback techniques to reduce stress.
