Take Home Pearls

ßToric IOLs provide a much more reliable and a precise way to correct astigmatism in

pseudophakia.

ßSurgeons should use surgical techniques that control the induction of change in astigmatism

in order to make an adequate use of toric IOLs in the surgery.

ßIn the future, due to their unlimited range, toric IOLs are to be dominant in the correction of astig-

matism above 2 diopters. Toric IOL calculation is based on preoperative corneal astigmatism.

ßAxis detection, prior to surgery is mandatory before starting the surgery. Preoperative mark-

ing of the adequate axis should be performed just before preparing the patient for surgery.
