8.1.2.4IOLtech MICS lens (IOLtech, La Rochelle, France; and Carl Zeiss Meditec, Stuttgard, Germany)

This lens is biconvex. The total diameter is 12.0 mm and the optic diameter is 5.5 mm. The angulation is 130 between haptics and optics. This is a hydrophilic acrylic and monobloc lens. This lens has a square edge. The diopters range from +10.5 to +25.5 D. The lens can be implanted with a disposable injector and a micro incision cartridge. This lens shows pseudoaccommodative effect (Fig. 8.4).

Verges et al. (ESCRS congress, Portugal 2005, London 2006) showed data of 48 patients who underwent MICS and implantation of IOLtech MICS lens through 1.8 mm incision. After 1 year follow up, 92% of the patients reported UCDVA 20/25 and 96% BCDVA more than 20/25. Sixty-five percent of the patients achieved near visual acuity J3 with distant correction and 98% of the patients, J5. Only 2 patients needed Nd:YAG capsulotomy.

8.1.2.5TetraFlex KH-3500 and ZR-1000 (Lenstec, St. Petersburg, FL)

TetraFlex KH-3500 is the accommodating MICS IOLlens. It is made from hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and consists of 26% water and the material is highly flexible. The lens is 11.5 mm in total length and 5.75-mm in optic length with square edges. It is a

one-piece lens. The lens is available in powers from +5 to +36 D. The TetraFlex KH-3500 uses injector with 1.8-mm cartridge [19] (Fig. 8.5).

Wolffsohn et al. evaluated the accommodative ability of this lens. After surgery, distance BCVA was 0.06 (±0.13) logMAR and 0.58 (±0.2) logMAR at near. The objective accommodation was 0.39 (0.53)D and subjective accommodation was 3.1 (1.6) D. Six months following surgery, posterior subcapsular scatter had increased (p < 0.01) in the KH-3500 implanted subjects and near acuity had decreased (p < 0.05). In conclusion, authors suggest that the accommodative ability of the lens appears to have decreased by 6 months postsurgery [20].

Chitkara at the ESCRS Winter Refractive Surgery Meeting 2004 reported that the mean accommodation achieved binocularly was 3.42 D. Moreover, 89% of the patients achieved J3 or better unaided binocular near vision at 6 months, and 100% achieved J5 or better [21].

ZR-1000 is the new one-piece lens from Lenstec. The length of this lens is 11.0 mm. The diameter of the optic is 5.5 mm and is made in square edge technology. The optic type is equiconvex and the haptic is plate. The angulation is 00. This lens is made of 26% water content acrylic. The diopters of the lens range from +10.0 to +30.0 D. No clinical data are available for this lens (Fig. 8.6, Table 8.3).

8.1.2.6MicroSlim and SlimFlex MICS IOLs

(PhysIOL, Liège, Belgium)

MicroSlim IOL is a hydrophilic acrylic lens with biconvex optics. Optic diameter is 6.15 mm, and overall

This is a 26% hydrophilic acrylate, one-piece lens.

 

 

Optic size is 5.8 mm, overall length is 10.5 mm and

 

 

the haptic angulation is 0°. The optic design is bicon-

 

 

vex. The recommended anterior chamber depth is

 

 

5.1 mm. The lens is available from +10.0 to +30.0 D.

 

 

No clinical data are available for this lens.

 

 

8.1.2.8 AcriFlex MICS 46CSE IOL (Acrimed

 

 

GmbH, Berlin, Germany)

 

 

This lens is made of 25% acrylic hydrophilic. The

 

 

superficial is hydrophobic. The lens diameter is 11.0 mm

 

 

and optic diameter is 6.0 mm. This is a monobloque

 

 

type lens with perforated haptics. The angulation is 0°.

 

 

The optic is biconvex with sharp edges. The lens is

 

 

available from +15 to +27 D. Clinical data are not avail-

 

 

able for this lens (Fig. 8.8).

8.1.2.9 Hoya Y-60H (Hoya Corporation,

 

 

Tokyo, Yapan)

diameter is 10.75 mm. The angulation is 50. The power of the lens range is from +10.0 to +30.0 D. This lens can be injected using ViscojectInjector and 1.8 Viscoglide cartridge (Medicel, Widnau, Switzerland). No clinical data are available for this lens (Fig. 8.7).

In the Congress of ESCRS 2006, Vryghem et al. presented their experience in SlimFlex IOL implantation

Hoya Y-60H is quite a new lens for micro surgery. This is a hydrophobic foldable lens. No clinical data are available, but Tsuneoka described possibility of implantation of this lens through 1.7 mm incision. He used Hoya F-1 cartridge to inject the lens [22] (Fig. 8.9).
