Emergencies in Neuro-Ophthalmology: A Case Based Approach
showed a crescent sign of high intensity on the T1 surrounding the right internal carotid artery, consistent with a carotid dissection (Fig. 17.5). Following the MRI, the patient was admitted to the hospital and treated with antiplatelet therapy with aspirin. The brain MRI showed no intracranial ischemia. The neck MR angiogram (MRA) confirmed the right internal carotid dissection. Six months later, a repeat MRI and MRA of the neck showed the internal carotid dissection had healed completely. No further neurologic events had developed in the interim.
