for the Higher Categories of Soil Classification in Kuwait

Abstract

In this chapter we dened the master and diagnostic horizons identied in the soils of Kuwait. Among the master horizons, in Kuwait A, B, C and R have been identied in both the reconnaissance and semi-detailed survey of Kuwait. Whereas, eight diagnostic horizons (argillic, calcic, cambic, gypsic, ochric, petrocalcic, petrogypsic and salic) have been identied. Each master horizon or soil layer is allocated one or more small letters called sufx, which has specic meaning to describe the characteristics of the master horizon. In Kuwait, b, k, m, t, y and z are used. The Aquic, Aridic or Torric moisture regime and hyperthermic temperature regime are identied in Kuwait. The horizons and characteristics dened in this chapter are not in a key format.
