Wet woodlands and river-banks are covered by bird cherry (черёмуха обыкновенная) and the rare native black poplar (осокорь), alder ['ɔːldə] (ольха) and willow.
Scots pine and juniper (можжевельник)
grow in the Caledonian forest
(шотландский).
On lowland heaths (пустошь), upland moors (торфяник) and poor soils –
birches, aspen (тополь) and rowan ['rəuən ] (рябина) are found.
Sweet chestnut (каштан съедобный) and sycamore (платан) were introduced by the Romans and during medieval times.
England has a lot of wild flowers:
snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells, primroses (примула),
buttercups (лютик) and cowslips
(первоцвет), foxglove (наперстянка)
On the moors there are several kinds of flowering heathers.
