England was once almost entirely covered with woodlands - England's natural vegetation.
Today,less than 10 % of the country is forested.
Moorland and heathland occupy about ¼ of the country.
Nowadays woodland covers mainly:
the north and east of Scotland, south-east England and on the Welsh border
Largest forests:
-Sherwood Forest in the Midlands, where Robin Hood and his Merry Men lived
-Epping Forest to the north-east of London
-the New Forest in Hampshire laid-out (разбит,
спланирован) by William the Conqueror as a hunting ground
- Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.
