Seminar “The USA”
Question 1. Physical geography of the USA: mountains and plains; major rivers and lakes of the USA. Natural resources and their sites. Weather and climate.
The US is one of the top producers in the world, with major mining operations in Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico.
The United States Geological Survey estimates that four states accounted for more than 25% of all water withdrawals in the U.S.: California, Texas, Idaho, and Florida.
The Great Plains («America’s Breadbasket»)
Wheat: The region is the top producer of wheat in the U.S., especially hard red winter wheat (Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas) and spring wheat (North Dakota, Montana).
Corn: Major production in the eastern Plains (Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas).
Soybeans: Grown extensively in eastern sections (e.g., Nebraska, Kansas).
Cattle and Livestock: The Plains host some of the largest cattle ranching operations in the country. Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma are top cattle-producing states.
Hay, Sorghum, and Barley: Also widely cultivated, especially in drier western areas.
