Design surrounds us everywhere – at home, at work and on vacation. The whole life of a modern person is filled with designer products. However, often people cannot formulate exactly what design is.

Design is an activity aimed at creating aesthetic properties of industrial products. Many people have misconceptions about design. They think that design is only about how things look. Design is also about how things work. Designers can't simply follow their creative feelings. They have to turn an idea into something that is desirable, commercially successful and adds value to people's lives. Good design begins with the needs of the user. A good design fulfils a user's need. In addition, essential elements of a good design are balance engineering and technical knowledge with new ideas and product functionality.

I want to tell you about the design of my waffle iron. It was given to me as a child for the New Year. Because of its design, this thing delighted me! This waffle iron was round in shape with the image of a fairy from a popular cartoon. It was orange in color, which gave it a bright and beautiful look, created a joyful mood. The waffle iron is made of heat-resistant plastic on the outside and aluminum with a non-stick coating on the inside and also has an excellent value for money. In addition, the waffle iron has one feature. Waffles in it are prepared in the form of hearts.

At last century, the design of things changed quickly and rapidly. In the 1930s designers increased the efficiency of boats and aircraft by giving them smooth and curved shapes. This was time when the use of aerodynamics in car design began. The products had ergonomic designs, because the goal of the designers was to meet human needs. During the 1960s, the power of advertising, particularly on television, created mass consumerism. It was a time of short-lived products. Throughout the 1990s, many designers worried about the damage to the environment caused by industrialization. They created more energy saving products and products which consumers could repair or recycle.

I like the period of 1990, because some of the ideas of that time, such as solar-powered cars and electric cars developed at that time, are still relevant. The focus was on the durability of the products, which allowed you to buy one product and use it for a long time. This method increases the efficiency of products, which means more functionality, which I like!

Design methods often lead to innovative products and services. The emergence of an innovative idea is the starting point from which the development of an innovative project begins. Next, you need to conduct marketing research. The purpose of this stage is to determine the target audience. An important feature of innovative projects is that you need to take risks. You can introduce new methods, but you also need to try to balance form, functionality and beauty. Design is important for the product, but don't place it above profitability. Then you need to summarize your idea, the data obtained during the research, make a business plan and follow it. The completion of the project is the transfer of the project results to the customer and the release of the product to the market.

Alessi is the famous Italian design company. Great-grandson of the founder, Alberto Alessi has achieved the world-wide success of the company by commissioning artists to design products, increasing exports, and enhancing its reputation for beautiful, useful products and innovation. The company has released many innovative designs, for example, 'Juicy Salif' citrus squeezer, the 'Anna G.' corkscrew and 'Mami' stockpot. As a result, the company has its own special design for products, which always confers status on the owner and fits with current trends.

In conclusion, I would like to say that design is a powerful tool that can influence the choice of goods and services for a person. The field of design has evolved over the centuries. Designers are actively involved in all stages of creating new products. Design is not only an art, but also a science.
