I’m analyzing the story «Getting known», written by D.H.Barber. The story represents Belles

Lettres style, the genre is a short story. The narration is done in the 1st person and is interlaced with dialogs. I think, that is written with a touch of irony, because even if some action seems reckless (in a good way), it can lead to more. The development of the plot takes place gradually, this is what makes the reader imbued with the text, and learn more about the development of events. The main theme of the story is «see the goal - don't see obstacles». The story tells us about a writer, who wants badly to become famous, but chooses not the best way of achieving his goal. In addition, Barber was a British journalist and magazine editor-publisher. The author emphasizes that the idea of the story is that the writer was not successful and well-known in the domain of writing, however wanted it very much. She was asked to publish an advertisement with the help of which many people will learn about her poems, but this must be done with some cunning and ingenuity, otherwise no one will pay attention even to this advertisement. The author quickly abandoned this idea, began to doubt if it would not help, and it would be a waste of money, or it would not be fair to write something in advertising that does not correspond to reality. Nevertheless, she had a goal and a dream, why should she give it up, just because of a momentary weakness?! I think that this phrase can help us to understand the author’s object «nothing ventured nothing gained». In the end, she was inactive, when suddenly an advertisement was published for her, which she did not know about and was stunned. In this advertisement, with the help of wit and cunning, there was information that did not represent her entirely, but there was a fragment that described her as a writer. This is the case of climax. Anyway, this advertisement gave her an incentive to promote a book, a collection of poems. The author’s irony is directed at the fact that even such a trifle as advertising forced a person not to close himself in himself, but to do what he wanted, and what he liked, and not to give up ahead of time, just for fear of making a mistake in something. I can say, that the ending of this story is open, because i want to believe that since then she has become a famous writer, her books have started to be sold for sale and her goal has been fulfilled. By the way, of conclusion I’d like to say, that those who succeed, as a rule, are distinguished by optimism and determination. These qualities completely coincide with the ideology of "I see the goal – I see no obstacles." While some analyze, calculate, hesitate, others take and do, finding themselves at the finish line, while competitors have not even started yet.
