The Modal verb

Modal verb the verbs that express are modality that means don’t denote actions or states

-They show probability, necessity, desirability of the action.

- Mod.V. are polysemantic, they have more than 1 meaning and express different shades of modality

- M.V can’t be a predicate in the sentence. They can only be a part of a compound modal predicate (сложное модальное сказуемое)

Modal verbs aren’t time- specific (Глагол не зависит от времени)

We express time-reference with the help of the Infinitive

Ex: You must leave now (Present)

She must have left a long ago. Perf. Infinitive express the Past
