1.)Warming up activities
In the modern world, most of the problems are directly related to the environment, which worries not only scientists and environmentalists, but also ordinary people.
Nature is everything that surrounds us. These are animals, plants, water, sky, and earth. If we do not protect nature and take care of it, then, in the end, it will die, and we will simply have nowhere to live.
The world around us plays a great role in our life: it gives us food, land, air and much more. All these things are interconnected, and if there is no one, then there will be no other.
The number of environmental problems in our time is simply off the scale. This includes environmental pollution, the extinction of individual species, the depletion of mineral resources, and desertification. People thoughtlessly use minerals, extract oil and gas in huge quantities, and then they are surprised that the remaining reserves will last only for a couple of hundred years.
In some countries, water supplies are barely enough, and in other regions, people leave the tap on and just pour out life-giving drops. A large number of factories and factories have a negative impact on the environment, polluting it with waste. Exhaust gases emitted by cars and trains, as well as people who thoughtlessly throw labels and wrappers anywhere, are also factors that cause environmental problems.
Deforestation, extermination and hunting of individual species of animals-all this devastates nature. And at this rate, nothing will remain of it.
It is in order not to completely kill nature that ecological communities are created around the world that protect the world around us. But in order for environmental problems to become less, all people on the planet need to think about their actions. It is necessary to take care of water, save minerals and forest resources, take care of species that are on the verge of extinction.
If everyone makes at least a small contribution to the protection of nature, then the world around us will flourish and exist for many centuries and generations to come.
2.)Follow up activities
Ex. 88
Three years ago Paul finished school and entered the department of history at a university in Britain.
He did well in his school leaving exams and got top grades in all subjects but literature where he failed to get an excellent mark for his essay.
The entrance exams for the university were extremely competitive, not to fail them you must score 80 % or over.
The form of assessment at the English exam was a written test and he passed it with a really high score.
Now he is a third year student, and he lives in a hall of residence with other overseas students and usually eats at a university canteen.
He studies hard and tries not to miss classes.
Most ofall he likes lectures on British culture delivered by a famous professor of history.
Next year together with four other advanced students he is going to attend a seminar on his favourite subject.
He thinks that will help him to get ready for history finals at the end of the course of study.

4.)Vocabulary building and word formation

6.)Extention activities
Does man destroy nature or improve it? It is difficult to give an exact answer to this question, because on the one hand, building cities, factories and public transport, which many of us use, people are very harmful to nature, because many animals die because of this, and rare plants disappear forever... On the other hand, does a person contribute to the development of nature reserves and other places where animals and plants are cared for and thereby save them from themselves? In principle, it is so, no matter how you say it, but man is the only destroyer of nature, who only recently thought about how to save it all... By building nature reserves, we only correct our old mistakes, but we do not improve it in any way. Alas.
