«Under the supposedly revolutionary slogans “for true Soviet genetics,” “against bourgeois genetics,” “for the undistorted Darwin,” etc. we have a fierce attack on the greatest achievements of 20th century science, we have an attempt to throw us back half a century. »
Alexander Sergeevich Serebrovsky at the IV session of the VASKHNIL in December 1936.

ALEXANDER SEREBROVSKY IS A PORTRAIT OF A SOVIET GENETICIST.
Trofim Denisovich Lysenko
Alexander Sergeevich Serebrovsky (1892-1948).
His works had a significant impact on the development of science in the field of genetics, breeding and evolutionary theory. Serebrovsky was one of the first breeders to apply genetic approaches and played an important role in developing the concept of the gene pool. Unfortunately, due to the events related to «Lysenkov genetics», most of his work has been ignored; however, today he has finally received recognition.

BIOGRAPHY AND FACTS THAT INFLUENCED HIS FATE.
•Serebrovsky was born in Kursk in 1892.
•Post the war, Serebrovsky devoted himself to science and was involved in the creation of zootechnical stations which improved agricultural animal breeds.
•In the 1930s, he led a genetic research group of the biology division in MGU.
•His works were labeled «useless».

THE MAIN DISCOVERY.
The biggest Serebrovsky's achievement was the discovery of the gene's divisibility. He created a
model of a gene consisting of many "regions", each of which is capable of mutation. Alexander Sergeevich later verified this theory by using X-rays to induce mutations in specific parts of the gene.
Serebrovsky formulated the gene pool concept – a collection of all genes and their alleles existing in each population. He argued that the gene pool is a delicate system that gets affected by mutations, selection, and migrations, changing it in the process.

RECOGNITION OF THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY, THE TRAGEDY OF POLITICAL EVALUATION
The impact of Serebrovsky on science is immense. Scientists were ahead of his time in developing concepts that were accepted only in our time. He was among a small number of people who, even in the face of the threat of repression, continued to uphold the scientific tenets of genetics. At the same time, his works reflect the tragedy of totalitarian rule. Serebrovsky was a deeply suppressed scientific. He was persecuted and during the Lysenko era, “genetics” was labelled as “pseudoscience”.

CONCLUSION
Alexander Sergeyevich Serebrovsky is an incredible personality in the history of Soviet genetics. His scientific achievements were ahead of their time and laid the groundwork in modern genetics. Although, his life turned into a history of how ideologies distort the advancement of science and ruin the lives of scientists. I respect his deep scientific reasoning and honesty, and had it not been for his research, we would be ignorant of so many of the fundamental principles of genetics
