“Their matter is so formed that it can be driven, by operative force of the mind, at speeds which exceed that of light. But there is not ‘matter’ or ‘stuff’ as you use the words, which passes over the enormous gulf of space. For such speeds, here and there do not exist; space-time is a continuing herenow… but you must have your laws and theories, of course!”

So much for Etheria and the ethereans, who will become more familiar to us as we learn, with the aid of new inventions now on the earth, to tune in on them and their realms. This will be an integral part of the earth’s evolutionary struggle, in which the ethereans have come in recent decades to exhibit increasing interest. Factors and forces involved in contemporary life are moving earthly affairs toward an obvious climax.

During my 1957 experiments with telepathy, the ethereans with whom I had commerce conveyed to me, in a simplistic yet emphatic fashion suited to my ignorance of things cosmic, basic facts concerning the forces at work within the UFO phenomena that are anti-evolutionary and anti-humanity. This was, and is, unpleasant information. Nevertheless, I have found it in the intervening years to be all too true.

Unmasking and confronting these inferior forces, that is, forces from below, has been just as important a part of my work as my ventures into practical etherian physics. Ufology will never be anything more than a hollow shell, an illusion and a miserable fraud, unless we recognize the outlines within it of a massive evolutionary struggle. Along with the essentially benign Etheria and its ethereans, there are other forces impinging upon human life in decisive fashion. These include the malefic unseen forces from beneath, who have made uncomprehending humans their playthings. The time has come for us to meet The Boys Downstairs, often known as the Black Gang, and to unmask some of their workings so that we may read them directly from life around us .

Chapter Thirteen

THE BOYS DOWNSTAIRS

We have stacks of reports about flying saucers. We take them seriously when you consider we have lost many men and planes trying to intercept them.

The assumption that entities “from space” are necessarily benign is one of the prime humbugs in conventional ufology. Mechanistically-minded humans are reluctant to associate superior technology with inferior motives, despite the lesson of our own world that man’s ability to survive is threatened by the misuse of technology. In this world, we have directed the finest scientific manpower and immense resources to weapons development. These men of science have demonstrated the ethical benefits of higher education—as it is presently conveyed to the world’s young people—by designing devices to destroy millions of human beings at a stroke. Were an individual to come forward today, in any major land on earth, with an invention that could exterminate the entire populace of another country at one blow, he would be granted unlimited resources for its perfection. That is the way earth life is. Men plan and perform acts of cruelty never seen among the beasts of the earth. Realists accordingly see clearly a distressing partnership between superior technology and inferior motivation, right here in this world of ours.

In other worlds, around us, beside us, inside us in space, the same relationship is likely to exist. In these other worlds, there are not only the ethereans to whom we have been introduced by Meade Layne, but also beings who are undoubtedly more rotten, decadent and degenerate than modern man has allowed himself to become. These entities are in a large measure responsible for pulling man down. They oppose his evolutionary development, and have involved themselves intimately in UFO phenomena. They are the beings of death and destruction, of splitting and rigidification. They are the “boys from downstairs.”

The NICAP organization, exemplifying establishment ufology, still holds that there is no convincing evidence of hostility from space, even though untold hundreds of aircraft have disappeared without trace and frequently under sinister circumstances—since the end of the Second World War. NICAP founder Major Donald Keyhoe detailed one such instance in his Flying Saucer Conspiracy, where a covey of U.S. Navy aircraft disappeared in the “Bermuda Triangle” area, leaving no trace. A Martin flying boat sent out to investigate similarly vanished without trace.

Another example of violence that has been permitted to slide conveniently into the limbo, appeared in Leonard Stringfield’s CRIFO Orbit, published in Cincinnati on 4 November 1955. One of Mr. Stringfield’s most grievous shortcomings, in the eyes of those who insist that all spacemen must be friendly, was his ability to look facts in the face—and print them! Here is what Mr. Stringfield printed in that singular issue of Orbit:

Beyond estimation is the number of aircraft, military and otherwise, that have been lost to the UFO. Surely the earliest date for such occurrences goes back farther than the classical Mantell “death

chase” of 1948. In this category, we refer once again to the files of Robert Gardner, which reveal for us this unusual incident dating back to 1939—just before the outbreak of WW II.

CASE 107, between San Diego and Honolulu. Late summer, 1939. At 3:30 p.m., a military transport plane with thirteen men aboard left the Marine Naval Air Station in San Diego for a routine flight to Honolulu. When three hours at sea the aircraft was in dire distress.

Mayday calls were radioed back to the base, then suddenly nothing more was heard until the craft came limping back and executed an emergency landing. The first men to reach the craft were shocked by what they saw—all thirteen members of the crew were dead, save for the co-pilot, who managed, miraculously, to steer his charge in safely. Three minutes later he was also dead.

Examination of the bodies showed remarkably large, gaping wounds, not unlike those received by the surface of the craft, which indicated the impact of missiles. A second amazing discovery was the service pieces, .45 Colt automatics, carried by the pilot and co-pilot, had been emptied and their shells found lying on the floor of the cockpit. Lastly, and possibly akin to saucer phenomena, was the characteristic rotten egg odor which pervaded the chamber’s atmosphere. It was also learned regarding the incident that personnel who handled parts of the aircraft showed a mysterious skin infection. Security measures, Gardner was told, immediately blanketed the affair and cameras restricted. Corpsmen were barred from removing the bodies and the job of identification and diagnosis was limited to three medical officers only.

Hostility has been woven into UFO sightings all along. Keyhoe’s description of the awesome Bermuda Triangle incident, and his presentation of the Kinross AFB plane kidnapping are merely a couple of instances among many. Similarly typical are those cited by me in They Live in the Sky. The amazing thing about all these incidents—without exception—is the evasion of their study. In due course, we shall attain a little insight into the means by which this strange blindness and evasion is induced in vulnerable humans by the Boys Downstairs—the perpetrators of these criminal assaults on aircraft and human beings.

Where others in the UFO field in the 1950s avoided this issue of hostility, I touched it fully. Only a few investigators like Harold T. Wilkins and Leonard Stringfield were willing to entertain the idea that not all entities from space were benignly motivated. Analogy will be found a valuable tool in reaching an understanding of a key UFO issue: that all who ride in spaceships may not be intent upon humanity’s salvation. With his warrior’s intuition, the late General Douglas MacArthur warned of the necessity for human beings to unite against possible attack from other worlds.

Now that we are in possession of some understanding of the crucial role of invisibility in UFO phenomena, as well as some technical rudiments of the New Knowledge, the conception of inferior (that is, from below or beneath) beings manipulating an uncomprehending mankind can be broached. As we do so, we should bear in mind that the exposure of this particular activity has been set on foot by the ethereans, who have intervened, it seems, to arrest or slow this process by such exposure. While we need to understand the reality and methods of our foes, therefore, we should remember our friends—those ethereans whom Meade Layne characterized as the Guardians.

Let us turn to our first analogy. Malfeasance, embezzlement, theft, bribery, corruption, deception, premeditated murder and all other left-handed activity on this earth shares a common functioning

principle: keep the victim unaware that he is being preyed upon. Criminals and crooks of every stripe, from the pickpocket all the way up to the super-rich manipulator in his fortress of power, utilize this principle. They proceed with their depredations and enjoy their particular conception of success because their activities are either unobserved or, in the case of the big-time operations, stand beyond the comprehension of most of their fellows.

The pickpocket depends on legerdemain, the thief on stealth, the embezzler on misplaced trust. In the case of the real rulers of this world—those to whom politicians are manipulable entities of existence —every device of deception is employed to divert attention from their machinations. While American idealists have waved flags, submitted to confiscatory taxes, and shipped their sons abroad in every generation of the 20th century and beyond—to be mangled in the maw of a foreign war—the rich and the superrich are otherwise busy. They plunder the Republic and its ideals, multiply their wealth exponentially, and make the avoidance of all taxation their religion.

Ferdinand Lundberg’s monumental book The Rich and the Super-Rich2 has provided an appalling introduction to American legalized criminality—extant today on a staggering scale. Detailed official hearings on television, of the Watergate and Iran scam type, have shown publicly what has long been hidden: corruption on a prodigious scale. Men are in charge of public affairs—and men are in charge of such hearings—who will deliberately evade the truth. This truth-hatred must be understood as the signature of the controlling invisible forces. Does this seem far from UFOs? Not if you are seeking to prove that most of this planet is already under illegal control of various kinds, functioning through legitimate governments. Obscurantism on UFO matters is government policy, and has its roots in this same illegal control of human affairs and also of individual human beings.

There are essentially two factions at work in UFOs. There are the ethereans, who enlighten and guide, and the Boys Downstairs who confuse and control mankind. The earthly instrumentalities of the Boys Downstairs include those who are inspired—by whatever means suit the particular individual—to kill every rational approach to the UFO subject. Governments and their satellite scientists adequately demonstrate the strangulation of rational inquiry.

Analogy may further elucidate these processes. When the embezzler is discovered, he is no longer trusted. He has been exposed and trust in him is ever afterward withheld. A pickpocket caught in the act not only goes to jail, but might well be smashed senseless by his victim. Exposure cripples the functioning of the under-handed activity, regardless of its magnitude. The top-tobottom rot of the American government, illustrated by various televised official hearings, has revealed criminal and amoral activity on a scale that shocks decent Americans. More than ever before in history, decent Americans are realizing that their government is riddled through with evil. As with the pickpocket and the embezzler, so with the highest echelons of rule—under-handed workings depend for their continuance upon remaining veiled.

In the UFO field, broaching the idea of unseen beings is the beginning of the exposure of those beings, and their workings. The ethereans frankly state that they, themselves, are invisible. So are the Boys Downstairs, but humans lacking discrimination persist in the belief—despite all evidence to the contrary—that there are no invisible beings. When a man like myself takes photographs of various invisible organisms and constructs, using the simplest apparatus, such findings are sequestered in favor of what is termed “harder” evidence.

There is no taste in ufology, down to this day, for the implications of changing physical density and transitions of substance. “Scientific” things are sought, and the manifestation most thirsted after is a sighting of a “structured” object. For these people, happiness in ufology comes with the killing out of soul and spirit from the subject—of any living element whatsoever. Neurotic comfort attends the anchorage of the subject within the mechanical rubric, even if the cost of this pathological comfort is what we have already paid—over forty years of zero progress. The subject has become rigidified, and thus bears the signature of the Boys Downstairs.

This rigidification draws the necessary veil between the malefic workings of the unseen predators and those upon whom they prey. The refusal and reluctance to break out of this straitjacket, on the part of scientists, philosophers and investigators of all kinds, permits the unseen manipulators to continue. An awakening is positively necessary if the Boys Downstairs are not going to win out. Just as awakened Americans would certainly take back their country from its own native-born despoilers, if they knew about the whole horrible panorama, so will awakened human beings take back human evolution from the clutches of the devil.

Who are these unseen beings? What is their origin, and what purposes are they serving? How can they be combated? How are they involved in UFO phenomena? When we tackle these questions with the resources of spiritual science and etherian physics, we will soon find that we no longer have to answer that embarrassing question that always comes from the back of the hall at UFO lectures: “Why don’t they come down and say hello?” Those of them that have come down to say hello—in their own way—are far removed from those dreamers’ conceptions of spacemen that were current of yore. The days of golden-haired titans with no dental caries belong to a quaint, bygone epoch.

What is to be set down here is required, by the limitations of this book’s physical size, to be a sketch. Once again the sketch must be almost presumptuous in its simplicity in dealing with profound esoteric events. Readers who wish to expand on what is said here, or to penetrate into it more deeply, should refer to Dr. Rudolf Steiner’s classic Outline of Occult Science, or to his series of lectures on the matters in question, Lucifer and Ahriman. Given in 1919, these lectures were published in 1954 by the Rudolf Steiner Publishing Company of London.

Study of this titan’s work will prove rewarding. There are three tremendous events, according to occult research, that have influenced or will influence, the course of human evolution more profoundly than any others. These events are the incarnation in the mortal body—walking the earth among men and as men—of three mighty spiritual beings. These beings are Lucifer, Christ and Ahriman. Lucifer and Christ have already incarnated. Their influences in human culture are traced by Dr. Steiner. Everything he writes in this regard may be read directly from life as we know it and from history as it is set down.

Ahriman has yet to incarnate, but he is coming soon. He is the boss man, if you like, of the Boys Downstairs. To the enlightened observer of contemporary human affairs, there is no doubt whatever that human life is being prepared with feverish intensity for this tremendous incarnation. UFOs are a part of the preparation, together with the kind of thinking we have had from official science regarding UFOs and their origin.

Earlier in this book we referred to the powerful cultures, long predating the Christian period, that are constantly being unearthed by modern archaeology. These pagan cultures reveal in their artifacts and

mythologies a remarkable rapport with cosmic forces, so that the cultures themselves may be regarded as products of a more profound insight into cosmic workings than is consciously possessed by modern man. Grecian art in all its magnificence is an example of this.

These earlier, ancient people, even those that pre-date the Greeks, were inspired to their great achievements by the incarnation in Asia, in the third millennium before Christ, of the spiritual being known as Lucifer. All too often, primitive theology has identified Lucifer with the Devil, or with Satan. His name actually means “light-bearer” or “bringer of the light.”

Lucifer’s influence on man, right down to this day in residual form, is to lead man out beyond himself into ecstatic (in the root sense of the term, ex stasis—out of a fixed and rigid order) religious ideas and experiences. Lucifer tends to divest man of his earthly anchorage and orientation. Among humans, the mystic is likely to be under Luciferic influence. In more recent times, the irruption of so-called psychedelic experiences and perceptions—the subculture erected around psychotropic drugs—may be deemed Luciferic. The spectacle of scores of thousands of young people led out beyond themselves is verification enough of the source of their inspirations.

The tendency of Oriental cultures to withdraw from the world—the estimation of the physical world as maya or illusion—is another residual Luciferic influence. The powerful westernizing forces and influences, reaching their strongest development in Japan and Red China, have not yet swept away the sedimentary Luciferic influence on Oriental peoples and civilizations. This might be anticipated in the general area where Lucifer’s incarnation took place.

Lucifer’s influence spread westward, and led to the kind of rapport with spiritual powers and forces that characterizes ancient cultures. Men felt themselves membered into cosmic workings, and these were fully as real to them as electric power is to us. The initiates of these great cosmic mysteries were the leaders of ancient men, and it was under their general direction that life maintained its evolutionary course. Hebraic culture literally sprouts into this ancient wisdom, and provided the religious and cultural milieu for the incarnation, more than two millennia after Lucifer, of Christ, the spirit of the sun.

The ministry of Christ and the events preceding and following Golgotha, are to the eyes of the esotericist, misunderstood by modern people. The formal religionist, having jettisoned reincarnation, has to think of Jesus as a man-god. To the occultist, Jesus the man was a human being who was trained to adepthood by the Essenes. This training was for the specific purpose of providing a physical vehicle in which the spirit of the sun could incarnate for a period of three years. During this time, the cosmic mysteries were dramatized for man. This is the essence of the Christ event from the occult viewpoint.

The earthly consequence of the Christ event, which significantly occurred in what we now term the Middle East, was the development of European civilization. Christ’s incarnation provided a corrective impulse against the untrammeled spread of Luciferic influence. In short, to prevent man from going out too far beyond himself and thereby failing to do the world’s work. The time since Christ has been largely occupied in the creation of European and American civilization.

Preparations began in the middle of the 15th century A.D. for the incarnation on earth, among humans in a mortal body, of the third of this stupendous cosmic triad—Ahriman. What spiritual science tells

us concerning these preparations may be verified by life around us, by actual observation of the “real” world that we know, or think we know. Recognizing that there is in the relatively near future to be such a stupendous being coming among us is one of the major aids we have in unraveling UFO phenomena. Without this knowledge, the phenomena remain impenetrable. Danger and disillusionment will certainly attend further arrogant ignorance of Ahriman’s workings.

As with Christ and Lucifer, there is no way that mankind can avert Ahriman’s incarnation. He is, as it were, designed into human evolution, and in some degree or another is already a part of every human being. Everything that comes from beneath man, everything that drags him down beneath himself and beneath the beasts of the earth in the process, comes from the Ahrimanic powers. Christians of primitive faith would call him Satan—the ruler of darkness. He is polarically opposite to Lucifer, who would lead man out beyond himself. Degenerate impulses, murderous thoughts, greed, hatred, revenge—negative activity of all kinds is powered and inspired by the Ahrimanic forces. The chieftain of all this is about to come among us in the flesh. Dr. Steiner has this to say on page 11 of

Lucifer and Ahriman:

“If Ahriman were able to slink into a humanity unaware of his coming, that would gladden him most of all. It is for this reason that the occurrences and trends in which Ahriman is working for his future incarnation must be brought to light.

“One of the developments in which Ahriman’s impulse is clearly evident is the spread of the belief that the mechanistic, mathematical concepts inaugurated by Galileo, Copernicus and others explain what is happening in the Cosmos. That is why Anthroposophical spiritual science lays such stress upon the fact that spirit and soul must be discerned in the Cosmos, not merely mathematical, mechanistic laws put forward... as if the Cosmos were some huge machine. It would augur success for Ahriman’s temptings if men were to persist in merely calculating the revolutions of the heavenly bodies, in studying astrophysics for the sole purpose of ascertaining the material composition of the planets—an achievement of which the modern world is so proud.3 But woe betide if this Copernicanism is not confronted by the knowledge that the Cosmos is permeated by soul and spirit. It is this knowledge that Ahriman in preparing for his earthly incarnation wants to withhold from men (emphasis added). He would like to keep them so obtuse that they can grasp only the mathematical aspect of astronomy. Therefore he tempts many men to carry into effect their repugnance to knowledge concerning soul and spirit in the Cosmos. That is only one of the forces of corruption poured by Ahriman into the souls of men.”

We now begin to throw light on the downright dishonest attitudes of official science towards UFO phenomena. Official science is the exterminator of soul and spirit in earth life. Such things are not considered “real” knowledge— an assessment that could well emanate from Ahriman’s own mouth were he here today in a mortal body. Since he is not, he utilizes the bodies, brains and minds of certain humans who already are here. In due course, we will outline the basic mode of instrumentation by which such control is wielded—and through which Ahrimanic beings not of our density help prepare the earth for Ahriman. One has only to review the angry, irrational reception accorded by official science to the de-rigidifying, innovative cosmogony of Velikovsky to see official science for what it is, a sleazy Ahrimanic fraud on true science. Every thinker, worker or inventor who would de-rigidify is handled the same way.

Drawing further upon Dr. Steiner’s insights, we may list some of the ways in which the Ahrimanic powers influence or control human thinking. Critical areas bearing upon Ahriman’s incarnation carry the heaviest signature of the Boys Downstairs. The connection of a number of things listed to the UFO mystery will be self-evident.

1.Execration of soul and spirit by official science.

2.Inspiration in the average man of contempt, suspicion and antagonism toward anything that leads to genuinely spiritual considerations.

3.Idolatry of goods and services as all-sufficient for humanity.

4.Perversion of cultural life so that nothing is deemed worthwhile unless it puts food in our mouths.

5.Denial of the invisible worlds.

6.Nationalism as the grand divider of humanity.

7.Ceaseless political party strife in which opposing forces fail to recognize that their ideas are of equal merit and equally justifiable.

8.Dead scientific concepts. Endless thousands of scientific books on library shelves and no cosmic knowledge whatever in the scientists.

9.Dead education, characterized by rote learning and rigidification of the natural biological correspondences that exist in children with cosmic processes.

10.Idolatry of numbers, as exemplified in the computer age with its dehumanization of life.

11.Tedium in outer life, as exemplified by the endless “toys for adults” mode of living in wealthier countries. More cars, more speedboats, more trailers, campers, guns, fishing tackle and aircraft to offset the mounting deadness of work in civilized nations.

12.Obsession with measurement. Official science accepts only what can be counted.

Steiner points out that it will become increasingly difficult for men to relinquish the notion that all knowledge of the external world not acquired through measure and number is delusion. To measure! How much emphasis is laid on that. What does it really mean? In reality, it means to compare something with a given dimension, be it length, weight or volume or what have you. In such measurements, the qualitative element is lacking, a state of affairs the Ahrimanic beings find it propitious to perpetuate.

Dr. Steiner emphasizes that a natural science so based leads only to an Ahrimanic illusion. Man must have natural science, of course, because since the Greco-Latin epoch he has been on the descending curve of evolution. He is a being growing physically weaker, in the sense that he no longer lives on the sense plane with the same intensity as did the Greeks. It is this weakening apprehension of the world that has made necessary the fata morgana of official scientific conceptions. There is no greater illusion than that of a cosmos minus soul and spirit—the concept that is relentlessly hammered into generation after generation of helpless young students.

When the listed influences of the Ahrimanic powers are examined, it is obvious that all these effects have accelerated in recent years. Man stands in clear danger of losing his humanity to the juggernaut of technology—although it need not be so. Life is being steadily dehumanized, and had it not been for the revolt in the Sixties of the younger generation, this tremendous Ahrimanic stream might have swept all before it. The Ahrimanic grip on world thought is undeniable, and on official science, that grip is total.

Denial of the invisible worlds is a pillar of Ahrimanic concepts. When evidence is adduced of the presence of invisible UFOs—with its incalculably damaging consequences for extant denial of the invisible—that evidence is sequestered or ignored. Ahriman inspires, through his agents, the denial of invisible UFOs—which would otherwise undo his racket, and expose him. In ufology, it is a pervasive aspect of the phenomena as reported and recorded by thousands of persons. No attention is given to it.

Ahrimanic influences also lead to the ridicule of all experiences with UFOs that in any way touch upon the presence of spiritual beings, or the intervention of the earth’s guardians. “Contact” experiences are arranged deliberately by the Ahrimanic powers to have the involved personage report back to his fellow men that physical spacemen are involved. Official science then ridicules it, pointing to the lack of evidence. That same lack of evidence then paralyzes official scientific endeavor. Nobody looks in the invisible where the answers are. Despite the illusory round-and-round produced by these engineered “contact” encounters, still man persists in his illusory evaluation that UFOs are ships from other planets and nothing more. These notions are all Ahrimanically inspired.

The eye of the investigating scientist remains fastened on the illusion that Ahriman has fashioned for him—the flittering glimpses of spaceships projected momentarily and ubiquitously into human sight. Measuring, numbering, pointer-reading instruments fail at every turn, and indeed, are often completely corrupted by the manifestations. Still the highly-trained scientist cannot relinquish the mode of mentation into which he was brainwashed while still an innocent child. With his illusory objectivity and life-killing “controls,” he is only the incarnate extension and forerunner of Ahriman himself, and is all the more pathetic on that account.

The bankruptcy of official science concerning UFOs has its origin in this Ahrimanic inspiration and control. Demonstrate, as I have, that intelligent organisms exist unseen in plasmatic form, and you are ripping away the Ahrimanic illusion. You are exposing Ahriman just as the cop detects the burglar or the auditor exposes the dirty little embezzler. You are breaking his grip on the human race, and his earthly representatives have no taste for facing such truths or mounting the necessary investigations to obtain the verifications for which they clamor.

There are thus these good, solid reasons why science has been so overwhelmingly defeated—and even humiliated in the UFO field. The whole thing seethes and pulses with Life, and cannot be rigidified. What the ethereans bring to our attention in this way, the Ahrimanic powers must smother with engineered illusions. The science that has been bankrupted by this has enjoyed simultaneous booming success in the development of mass murder. That ought to tell every intelligent human being something about the inspiring forces behind it. Ahriman controls official science and the minds and brains of its high priests.

The only mass effort made by human beings to counter the Ahrimanic juggernaut was the Luciferically-inspired “psychedelic revolution,” in which thousands of young people, sickened by dehumanization and the murderous nature of the culture from which they had sprung, took to drugs. Without conscious knowledge of what they were really doing, these young people sacrificed themselves to re-awaken awareness of the spirit. Out of the horror of the drugs came, in the long run, a genuine interest in the arcane sciences, and in the New Knowledge as a viable force for human renewal. Nobody else has done much to oppose Ahriman.

One sees preparations for Ahriman’s incarnation on every side. Uncomprehending humans bend every effort—or so it seems—to make Ahriman’s sojourn among us as easy and beneficial to him as possible. Ministers of religion thunder about the Second Coming of Christ—one of the major inspirations of the Ahrimanic powers. Such claims as the imminence of the Second Coming can only issue from the mouths of people blind to all genuine spiritual insight. The Second Coming is an etheric event, and not a materialization in a mortal body.

When Ahriman arrives on earth, he does not proclaim himself as Ahriman, ruler of the nether powers. That men would flee from him if he did is only part of the story. His very essence is untruth, the lie his very substance. Therefore he comes as that which he is not, namely, Christ. In this guise he steps into a world ready to fall down at his approach, thoroughly prepared for his advent by ignorant, thundering ministers.

Ahriman will wield all the powers of the miracles related in the Bible. He will be able to heal and to control natural forces. He will not only have these attributes, but will also be able to bestow clairvoyance upon people who fall under his sway, giving them visions of the spiritual worlds without any effort on their part. All of them will see differently, of course, but this is part of Ahriman’s goal—the dragging down and corrupting of mankind.

The task of people today is to confront Ahriman in the right way, by knowing who he is and what he is about, and not only what he is going to do, but how he does these things. Man himself must balance off the Luciferic and Ahrimanic influences on his own being, pitting one against the other and surrendering to neither. This is how the earth is won for Christ, the Golden Mean between the two extremes. Today these matters have become practical concerns of importance.

Exemplifying the practicality of confronting Ahriman aright, let us briefly consider here, and in detail later in the book, the question of controlling natural forces. Were a being to appear on the earth today capable of stopping a storm, creating rain, or turning the wind around 180°on command, this would reduce terrestrial science to the level of superstition by comparison. Scientists would be overawed by such mastery of natural forces.

No matter how many doctorates graced their walls, or how many Nobel prizes they had earned, they would be willing to listen to any such being. They would recognize that their own mode of scientific cognition had been transcended. They would be under the sway of the miracle worker.

The plain fact is that in preparation for that time, humans have already been presented with the basic techniques for controlling the weather through the discoveries of the late Dr. Wilhelm Reich. The feats mentioned above have already been performed with simple apparatus by certain men, including myself, and more is being learned of these manipulations every year. The discovery of the orgone energy by Reich leads functionally to control of the weather, since orgone energy is the prime mover in all terrestrial weather systems. Developing our understanding of orgone engineering will allow us, as earth people, to be standing foursquare and in a posture of challenge when Ahriman appears to try and blind us with his science. The more we learn about cosmic forces and their control between now and Ahriman’s advent, the stronger we will be to wrest from him for Christ what is ours if we will but earn it.
