Overview of Australian Guide to Legal Citation 3rd Edition (AGLC): Revised Mar 2011

This table of examples has been written by Library staff at the University of Wollongong to supplement the online tutorial Legal Research: an introduction to legal materials and processes and to provide a summary of the most commonly used sources.

The Law Faculty at the University of Wollongong follow the method of citation outlined in the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (3rd ed, 2010) – referred to as AGLC3 in following pages. A copy of this publication is freely available for Download only (except pages 285-319 Law Report Abbreviations) from http://ezproxy.uow.edu.au/login?url=http://mulr.law.unimelb.edu.au/go/AGLC3 or in print at the UOW Bookshop. The

AGLC3 is published by the University of Melbourne Law Review Association and has been adopted by a number of Australian Law Journals and Australian Law schools as a standard method of citation.

Refer to the AGLC3 for detailed information on all sources including: government publications, interviews, transcripts, newspapers and overseas resources.

A distinguishing feature of the AGLC is the use of footnotes as well as a bibliography. To help students understand this important aspect, the table of examples below will begin by outlining the key aspects.

References to relevant General Rule(s) paragraph numbers are included eg. [1.16]
