The headline of the article is 8 environmental initiatives of P&G. The author of the article is Angelina Hazan.

The article is devoted to Procter & Gamble company which became eco-friendly nowadays. So, let's get started.

  1. The first point is “a packaging made of biodegradable material”. In 2010, representatives of Procter & Gamble announced a gradual transition to a new eco-friendly type of packaging for their products. It was about replacing harmful plastic created from petroleum products with ecoplastics obtained from sugar cane. This type of packaging is capable of completely decomposing, safe for the environment and for the consumer.

  2. Waste disposal control. One of its main goals in the field of ecology is P&G considers competent waste disposal. In the period from 2008 to 2013, the company had to reduce the amount of industrial "garbage" by 68%.

  3. Eco apps for iOS and Android. Educating consumers and informing about environmental issues through Internet applications is the most effective way in the digital era.

  4. Protection of forests from deforestation. Palm oil is an ingredient that can be found in many hygiene products. But few people think about how it is obtained: in Malaysia and Indonesia, up to 80 square kilometers are cut down daily of forests and green areas for the construction of palm oil plantations.

  5. Reducing water consumption and energy conservation campaigns. In P&G creates products aimed at saving water. For example, Ariel washing powder can work effectively without using the pre-wash mode of the washing machine, and Tide Coldwater washing powder cleans stains when washing in cold water.

  6. Access to clean drinking water. More than 1 billion people around the world lack safe drinking water, and more than 1,600 children die every day from water-borne diseases. P&G decided to draw the attention of residents from more prosperous regions to the problem and launched the Childrens Safe Drinking Water program, within which about 4 billion liters of water were purified in 75 countries over the course of seven years.

  7. "No" to phosphates. Phosphates are an extremely unpleasant component of many washing powders. These substances soften the water, but at the same time harm the consumer's health (they can cause damage to the respiratory tract) and the environment (phosphates are a good fertilizer for algae, which absorb oxygen necessary for fish, crayfish and other inhabitants of reservoirs). P&G has removed phosphates from its products.

  8. And the last but not least part of article is “work on solar energy”. As its advanced production eco-site P&G chose the German city of Krailsheim. It is there that an environmentally sound distribution center for goods for the European market is located, the energy for which is generated by giant solar panels.

The main idea of the article is that many big companies become more eco-friendly today. They start thinking about environment and saving our planet. Also, P&G has made its products safer for consumers.
