processing weakness in that domain. A shaded box indicates that no qualitative observations were applicable to that area/domain. These suggested areas of processing weaknesses must be cross-validated with other sources of information, including KTEA-3 scores, error analysis data, and tests of cognitive processing. Follow up testing to confirm or refute these hypotheses is recommended. This analysis of qualitative observations by cognitive processing areas is available only when using Q-global (not for hand scoring).

For those who choose not to use Q-global, the flash drive includes a Qualitative Observations Form for completing these same observations by hand. This form lists the qualitative observations in record form order, so the form may be completed easily during test administration.

USING THE KTEA-3 ACROSS MULTIPLE ADMINISTRATIONS

Repeated Administrations of the Same Form

Examiners with access to only one form of the KTEA-3 may readminister the same form to an examinee after enough time has passed. As a general rule, wait about 8 months to 1 year before readministering the same form to avoid an overestimation of achievement levels due to practice e ects. This guideline may be reduced somewhat for young examinees, or increased somewhat for older examinees. Keep in mind that

some subtests may elicit greater practice e ects than others.

Administering Alternate Forms

Examiners with access to both forms of the KTEA-3 Comprehensive, or the Brief Form and Comprehensive Form A, may alternate forms when evaluating an examinee across multiple points in time. Keep the following guidelines and considerations in mind when alternating forms:

If a Form A subtest score was deemed invalid due to administration error, the Form B subtest may be administered in quick succession to obtain a valid subtest score (or vice versa).

Administering an alternate form of the same subtest within a short time frame may result in scores that are slightly inflated due to

As a general guideline, wait 8 months to 1 year before readministering the same form of the KTEA-3.

When readministering the same subtests less than 8–12 months (or so) later, alternate Comprehensive Form A with either the Brief Form or Comprehensive Form B.

Use growth scale values (GSVs) for comparing performance across multiple administrations or assessing progress over time. Comparing any other type of score (i.e., raw scores, standard scores, percentiles, or age/grade equivalent scores) may be misleading for evaluating progress.
