You are going to give a talk about ARTS and MEDIA.

The text of the monologue

Vocabulary,

Grammar Structures,

Linking Words and Phrases

Step 1. Introduction

1. Start with a hook sentence that will attract the listener’s attention (a quote, a proverb, etc.).

2. Lead your speech steadily to the main part of your talk.

3. The introduction may consist of 3-6 sentences.

Andy Warhol once said, that in the future everyone would be famous for 15 minutes. Indeed, art and media play an important role in shaping our perception of the world, opening up new horizons for us. These two spheres actively shape its cultural landscape, becoming powerful instruments of influence.

Step 2. Types of Media

2.1 What is media? What are the different types of media? Which types of media do you use for different purposes (finding out about news, entertainment, education, research, etc.)?

2.2 What type of books and films do you like? Tell about your favourite film, book or TV series. Talk about the plot, the main characters and describe your favourite scene/episode.

To begin with, media refers to various channels and platforms through which information is communicated to the public. It encompasses a diverse range of types, including print media such as newspapers and magazines, broadcast media and digital media

Moreover, To be a success, media outlets strive to keep people up-to-date and better informed about current events, often utilizing news websites, TV news programs, and radio broadcasts. For entertainment purposes, platforms like streaming services and social media can get individuals completely hooked, providing a constant stream of engaging content. Education and research are facilitated through diverse media types, such as academic journals, documentaries, and online resources, aiming to bring home to individuals the importance of staying informed and pursuing knowledge through various channels.

I'm a fan of captivating stories that keep me on the edge of my seat. One of my favorite films is "Inception," a breathtaking movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The plot is full of twists and turns. The main characters, played by talented actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, contribute to creating an amusing story that blends action and cerebral elements seamlessly. The film is set in a world where skilled individuals can enter dreams to extract secrets or plant ideas. One of my favorite scenes is when the characters find themselves in a gravity-defying fight sequence in a rotating hallway. "Inception" is not just a story full of heroism; it's a cinematic masterpiece that explores the boundaries of reality and imagination.

Step 3. Media Recluses in the Arts

3.1 What is a media recluse? What famous people avoided media attention and why?

3.2 Do you think celebrities have the right to a private life? Why/Why not?

A media recluse refers to a person, typically a public figure or celebrity, who actively avoids or minimizes their presence in the media and public eye. Despite the desire of many individuals to appear in public and become a household name, some choose to escape publicity for various reasons. Famous people may avoid media attention to protect their privacy and maintain a sense of normalcy in their lives. Additionally, individuals who have little contact with the outside world may choose to distance themselves from media scrutiny to focus on personal well-being or creative endeavors. Some celebrities, after establishing reputation, opt to step back from the public eye to avoid unnecessary scrutiny. As a matter of fact, in certain cases, individuals may limit media interactions to prevent the exploitation of their personal lives, especially when it comes to selling movie rights or publicizing a product. For example, of media recluses include J.D. Salinger and Stanley Kubrick. Both chose to lead reclusive lives, emphasizing their commitment to their craft over public visibility.

I believe that celebrities have the right to a private life. While fame and public recognition often come with the territory of being a celebrity. Celebrities, like anyone else, can experience a breakdown when their personal lives are constantly exposed to the public. Furthermore, the expectation that celebrities must always be in the public eye can lead them to paint oneself into a corner.

A foreign correspondent is a journalist stationed in a foreign country to report on the events, developments, and stories occurring in that region. For instance, their primary responsibility is to convey the story accurately to their audience, providing insights and analysis on international affairs. Firstly, the role offers the opportunity to travel far and wide, experiencing different cultures and gaining a firsthand understanding of global events. The saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" resonates strongly in this context, as foreign correspondents often use visual storytelling to bring the realities of distant places to their audience, creating a powerful impact.

To make a successful career as a foreign correspondent, several qualities are essential. Firstly, it's crucial to be digitally literate, as modern journalism heavily relies on digital tools and platforms for reporting and communication. Besides, proficiency in English is often a requirement, as it is a widely used language in international journalism. Initiative is a key trait for success in this field. Foreign correspondents need to be proactive in seeking out stories, building connections, and navigating diverse and often challenging environments.
