BIOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES AND ITS GENETIC DETERMINATION
Af. E . V a r t a n i a n
The present chapter is related to the results of a biological and genetical study in the different forms of the development of schizophrenia. It was possible to demonstrate that the different forms of development are characterized by different biological symptoms which are reflected in the regularities of the inheritance of the disease. The diverse biolo gical (biochemical, immunological, biophysical) approaches have displayed an appearance in the organism of schizophrenic patients membranotropic effects which are related to a disturbed membrane permeability in the different cellular systems. As a result of such mechanisms immunopathological processes (humoral as well as of a cellular character) appear in the organism of such patients. Experiments on different biological models have shown a membranotropic action of abnormal metabolities in the biological liquids of schizophrenic patients.
A study of the population of schizophrenic relatives has shown a significant accumula tion among them of some biological signs. In this relation the role of biological factors of a predisposition in the appearance of the disease is being discussed. The author reports of the results of a study concerning the brain tissue of an embryo in the early stages of pregnancies in schizophrenic women. The whole complex of these studies allows to devide the pathobiological processes established in schizophrenic patients into 2 main groups characteristic for the polar forms of schizophrenia: periodical and continuous. In conclusion the author gives a general scheme of the described biological disorders and an interpre tation of their possible role in the pathogenesis of the disease.
