SEMINAR I

  1. Morphological structure of the English vocabulary. Derivational vs grammatical morphemes. Two levels of morphological analysis.

  1. Word-building. Affixation. Classification of affixes according to their origin, meaning and productivity.

  1. Conversion. Semantic types of conversion. Synchronic and diachronic approach to conversion.

  2. Compounds. Structural and semantic classification of compounds.

  3. Shortening and minor types of word-building.

TASKS

1. Draw a diagram representing stratification of morphemes in the English language.

2. Discuss these words in terms of item and arrangement. How do these words demonstrate productive patterns of affixation in Modern English?
