Health service in Russia is available to all. The most characteristic feature of the health service in our country is the attention paid to prophylaxis. One of the main tasks in the fight against different diseases is the early detection of the first sign of the disease. The main available method of preventing the spread of the diseases is health education. For this purpose the press, radio, TV and the Internet are very helpful.
The basic medical unit in Russia is the polyclinic. Many specialists including therapeutists, neurologists, surgeons and others work at the polyclinic. Polyclinics have their own laboratories, physiotherapy, X-ray, surgical and dental departments. There are polyclinics for adult population and policlinics for children. Out-patients are seen at the polyclinic. There they can get medical advice, treatment consisting of different poly medical procedures, laboratory analyses, instrumental studies, physiotherapy and so on.
A patient who is ill at home is visited by the district doctor. The doctor works 6 hours a day i. e. 3 hours at the polyclinic and 3 hours visiting patients in their homes. In case of an emergent illness he has to dial 103 for a doctor to come. The emergency ambulance service operates day and night and is free of charge.
If the patient's case is severe he (she) is admitted to the hospital. There are general and specialized hospitals, e. g. children's and TB hospitals (dispensaries). psychiatric, cancer, ophthalmological and other hospitals. There are the Motherand- Child Health Care Centers which look after the health of expectant mothers from early months of pregnancy. Nowadays there are a number of private clinics in Russia and some medical institutions are not financed by the State.
Of course there are a lot of problems facing medical science in our country. They are prevention and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), cardiovascular, viral and oncological diseases, the problem of medical genetics, immunology and creation of artificial organs and so on.
Our scientists do their best to improve the health care system.
