About myself. The Working Day of a Student of Medicine.

Let me introduce myself. My full name is Alexander. My surname is Orlov. I am 18 already. Now I am a first-year student of Rostov State Medical University. I take Medicine at the Medical Faculty (at the Faculty of Pediatrics; at the Faculty of Prophylactic Medicine; at the Faculty of Dentistry; at the Faculty of Military Medicine, at the Faculty of General Clinical Practice, at the Faculty of Clinical Psychology).

On weekdays I get up at 7 o'clock. I make my bed and go to the bathroom where I wash, brush my teeth and take a shower. At a quarter to 8 I'm ready for breakfast. While having breakfast I surf the Internet to read the latest news. As I have no time to cook substantial meal in the morning I just have a cup of coffee or tea and some sandwiches.

I live rather far from the University and it takes me 40 minutes to get there by bus. Our classes begin at 9 a.m. There is usually a lecture and 2 practical classes a day. During practical classes in Anatomy we study the structure of the human body. During practical classes in Biochemistry and Microbiology we carry on different experiments in laboratories. All of us must attend seminars in social subjects such as History of Medicine, Psychology, Socioligy and Philosophy. We have to prepare reports and make them in class. To be good specialists we'll have to use English for professional reading and that's why we work hard during English classes. We read and translate texts, answer the teacher's questions, do a lot of exercises.

At 12.40 we have a long break for lunch. I usually have lunch in a cafe near the University. Our classes are usually over at 3 p.m. But I never get home before 4 or 5.

As I am a member of a Students' Scientific Society once a month I attend its meeting. Sometimes I stay at the University because I need a book or an article which I can only get in the reading hall.

When I get home I feel I should take a short rest before I can do my homework. It usually takes me 3 or 4 hours to get ready for my practical classes. In the evening after dinner I like to read something or to watch TV. Sometimes if I have time I go to see my friends. But often I just talk to them on the phone. As a rule I go to bed at 11 p.m.
