Herpangina

is an acute infectious disease caused by the Coxsackie A or B virus, which is manifested by serous inflammation of the oral cavity and pharynx.

Herpangina

begins suddenly

with a rise in body temperature to febrile numbers° which persists for 2-3 days, and then critically decreases.

In a number of patients, on the background of fever, vomiting appears, sometimes cramping pains in the abdomen.

The most characteristic changes develop in the structures of the pharynx. On the 1st-2nd day of illness, small papules 1-2 mm in diameter appear on the hyperemic mucous membrane of the palatine arches, uvula, tonsils, soft and hard palate, tongue, which quickly turn into vesicles.

Herpangina

After 2-3 days, the bubbles burst, and erosions form on their bottom, covered with a grayish-white bloom; around them there is a narrow border of hyperemia.

The appearance of bubbles and erosions is accompanied by moderate pain when swallowing, but in some cases these pains are excruciating and accompanied by profuse salivation.

Regional lymph nodes are enlarged.

By the 4th-7th day of illness, in most patients, changes in the pharynx disappear.

.

Herpangina in children
