The laboratory of automatic control systems was established at the Instrument Building Department some decades ago. It was set up on the basis of a new trend in the field of applied mathematics. This trend of applied mathematics deals with an effective method of calculation of complicated control systems by means of computers.
According to the curriculum third – year students are to carry out lab assignments working in the lab four hours a week. The whole course of lab training is divided into three steges.
During the first stage of lab training students are requised to study elements of control system and to analyze their steady – state characteristics. While working in the lab students are trained to operate all the devices the lab is equipped with. The most common employed electronic devices third – year students deal with are: oscilographs, aemmeters, different kinds of oscillators, amplifiers and other devices.
The second stage of lab training is develed to the analysis of dynamic properties of control systems. Students are to make computations of simple closed – loop control systems. The functioning of complex technical means is paid much attention to.
Finally at the third stage of lab training students study methods of computation of sophisticated control systems. Such systems ere used for control of space vehicles, missiles end other moving objects.
There are students get to know three types of computational means in the lab. They are: 1. Desk digital computers of the type “Electronics 50 C”, 2. Electronic analoque computers – “M – 7”, 3. The computational center which comprises computers of the type “M – 400”, “M – 600”, “M – 4030”.
The advanced programme of lab training provides students with good knowledge of their future speciality namely – Automatic Control Systems.
Constant up-dating of lab equipment gives ample opportunity for carrying out all kinds of research.
