STANDARD TRADE TERMS |
Conclusion
It is apparent from the discussion of CIF and FOB that the contract of carriage in the form of a bill of lading plays an extremely important role in international trade. Part III on the transportation of goods examines the rights and liabilities associated with bills of lading, along with the three international conventions – the Hague-Visby Rules, the Hamburg Rules and the recently adopted Rotterdam Rules – which set out the responsibilities and liabilities of the parties to a bill of lading. Before proceeding to transport documentation, the next chapter will examine the Convention on the International Sale of Goods 1980 drafted by UNCITRAL to see how it addresses the obligations of the seller and the buyer and remedies available to the parties to the sale contract in the case of breach by either of the parties.
