Предлагаемое учебное пособие представляет собой книгу для чтения с заданиями и словарем. Адаптированный и сокращенный вариант пьесы Оскара Уаилда «как важно быть серьезным» представлен в виде 15 частей, каждая из которых сопровождается различными заданиями и упражнениями, направленными на развитие навыков чтения, говорения

(спонтанного и полуподготовленного). Пособие соответствует программе второго курса Института международных отношений НИЯУ МИФИ, но также может использоваться другими факультетами НИЯУ МИФИ и широким кругом лиц, изучающих английский язык. Составлено в соответствии с Государственным образовательным стандартом по дисциплине английский язык.

FIRST ACT SCENE

Morning-room in Algernon's flat in Half-Moon Street. The room is luxuriously and artistically furnished. The sound of a piano is heard in the adjoining room.

[LANE is arranging afternoon tea on the table, and after the music has

stopped, ALGERNON enters.]

ALGERNON. Did you hear what I was playing, Lane? LANE. I didn't think it polite to listen, sir.
