Praise Words

Lesson Plan for Intermediate Level Students

Subject: Always be lavish of praise.

Objectives: -students will memorize praise words;

-students will distinguish praise words in speech they hear and put them into practice;

Outcome: Students will be able to praise people’s actions which they approve of and justify their praise.

Procedure

1. Warm up.

Teacher: Today we’re going to talk about the importance of been approved and praised for having done something really good.

Mapping: How do you feel when you are praised?

-inspired -ready to take on new challenges

-proud of yourself When I’m praised I feel… -uncomfortable

-flattered

Who praises you the most often? What for?

2. Presenting the vocabulary.

Look at the list of praise words and phrases and categorize them according to a place you might hear them – at home/ at the lesson/ at a talent show. Some of the phrases can match more than one category. After each phrase write: H – at home; L – at the lesson; Sh. – at a show.

1. You are so special.

2. You are getting better and better every day.

3. I think he’s the smartest… I’ve ever seen.

4. None can stop you from doing your best.

5. You are a winner absolutely.

6. That was first class work.

7. You’re doing a good job.

8. You’re the best.

9. Well done.

10. Oh, what a gorgeous… you have.

11. Wow! Way to go!

12. Fantastic!

13. You mean a lot to me. You make me happy.

14. It was really joyous.

15. That’s the best.

16. Outstanding performance!

17. I love it!

18. You just blew me away!

3. Developing listening skills.

Teacher: Watch a short video from “Britain’s Got Talent” show and tick the praise words you will hear in the list (Britain’s Got Talent. JULES O’DWYER and MATISSE, Dog trainer,48)

4. Writing. 1) Watch the video again and match the Judges with the words they have said.

2) Underline the words and phrases which justify the praise words.
