the English lessons we were talking about sights of New York. And I
would like to tell you about the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Often
people call it the Met. It is in Manhattan on 5th Avenue and
82nd Street.
This is huge museum as city. A constant collection of the Met is consist of 19 separate sections, each of which is completed by the personal staff of keepers, restorers, and scientists.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870 by a group of American citizens. Now it is the biggest and the most popular museum in the USA, and one of the biggest museums in the world.
Works
of art from classical antiquity and Ancient Egypt,
paintings and sculptures from all the European masters, and
American and modern art are represented in the
permanent collection. The Met also have works
of African, Asian, Oceanic, Byzantine,
and Islamic art.

he section “European painting” contains more than 2 200 pictures. One of the last acquisitions of museum - “Madonna with the baby” Dukkio, which cost the Met 45 million dollars.

Important
