Education and its role in society

Education is a process of systematic acquisition by an individual of knowledge already accumulated by society. Education is the most important tool for introducing new generations to life in society. It has both general cultural and utilitarian (practical) significance. The general cultural role of education is that it develops the mental abilities of a person, expands his horizons, understanding of nature, events of the past and present, and relieves of false fears and superstitions. The utilitarian role of education is that an individual acquires knowledge, skills and abilities in a particular industry - acquires a profession.

The value of education

The state significance of education lies in the fact that the economic and political power, cultural influence of each country depends on the educational level of its population. In addition, democratic regimes cannot exist without a sufficient level of education of citizens, since otherwise the latter simply cannot consciously participate in political life. The state needs educated management cadres. The military needs education in order to use modern military doctrines and modern military equipment.

Education also has social significance. It is important for society to constantly maintain and improve the level of education that would meet the requirements of production, everyday life, and interpersonal relations. A member of society - a future employee and consumer - must obtain a professional qualification, be familiar with the basic economic and legal documents, understand the basics of the functioning of household appliances, not to mention the fact that everyone must be literate, know their native language.

Finally, education also has personal value. The life success and well-being of a person, the variety of his interests largely depend on the level of education. Education is needed not only in order to succeed in business, at work, but also for a full, interesting rest, for maintaining and strengthening health, for living together with interesting people. Education increases the prestige of a person in society. In the early 90s of the XX century, young people in Russia experienced a decline in their interest in education, especially in higher education. Many believed that the main thing was to be able to make money. However, already in the second half of the 1990s, the influx of people wishing to enter universities increased again. Young people became convinced that without a good education there can be no lasting business success.

The right to education is one of the basic and inalienable constitutional rights of citizens of the Russian Federation. This right is exercised through the education system, that is, the school. The organization and activities of the Russian school (secondary and higher) are regulated by the Law of the Russian Federation "On Education" (1995). The law establishes the legal characteristics of education: a certain level of it (secondary, higher, etc.) must be confirmed by an exam and certified by an official document (certificate, diploma).
