Advertising plays an important role in our life. Advertising surrounds us everywhere. It is not just an economic role advertising plays in our life. It influences on and forms our views and preferences. Besides, it makes us aware of a technological progress and development of other parts of our life.

So let's talk about what should ads be. First of all, an advert has to be attention-grabbing and powerful. Also the advertisement must contain a strong image that is eye-catching, a catchy slogan, a joke or smth shocking. It must get us interested, make us want the product and motivate us to go out and buy it.

Now I want to tell you about the ways of advertising then and now. The most popular and effective advertising in ancient times was word-of-mouth. Word-of-mouth is when people pass messages from one person to another orally. A little later, people began to use the inscriptions on the walls. People scratched various slogans on the walls with the help of sharp stones. The other traditional method of advertising was a wall or rock painting. It was a colourful image on stone or wall. The paint people were extracted from minerals, plants and animals.

In today's world, thanks to technology advertising has become more effective, more interesting and colorful. Today there are a lot of types of advertising e.g. advertisements in the Internet, on the radio, TV commercials, handbills and many other.

And the last question I would like to discuss is “Young people and advertising”. There are concerns about advertising aimed at young people. The most worrying thing is that children do not think carefully when they see television advertisements. Young people are less critical than adults and do not always understand that advertising is aimed at ensuring that they spend as much money as possible. Many governments are trying to control advertising for children. E.g. In Sweden, TV advertising to children under 12 is banned. Greece bans television advertisements for children’s toys between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.
