My Family

We are seven in the family: Mother, Father, a brother, a sister, my wife, my daughter and I (me).

My name is Alex Sviridov. I am 26. At the age of 18 I finished school and then I was in the Russian army. When I returned home, I went to work to the construction site where my father works. I am a bricklayer. (1) Last year I entered the Tomsk State University of Architecture and Building (part-time department). (2)

My father is 52 years old. He works at the construction site, he is an engineer. My mother is two years younger than my father. She is an economist but now she does not work, she keeps house. (3)

My sister's name is Ann. She is the youngest in our family. She is a teacher. She teaches physics at one of town’s schools. She likes her job very much. She is not married. My elder brother Denis does not live with us, he lives in St. Petersburg and has a family of his own.

I am married. My wife’s name is Helen. She is 25, she is one year younger than me. She studies at the Polytechnic University. She is going to be a manager. My little daughter was born three years ago. Every morning, except Sundays and Saturdays, we take her to the kindergarten.

We live in a four-room flat in a modern block of flats. Our flat has all modern conveniences (4): gas, central heating, cold and hot running water and a telephone. We ail like to gather in the evening, talk about the latest news, watch TV or read and study. We have lots of friends who often come to see us on Saturday evenings or on Sunday.

Меня зовут Алексей Свиридов. Мне 26 лет. В возрасте 18 лет я окончил школу, и затем я служил в российской армии. Когда я вернулся домой, я пошел работать на стройплощадке, где работает мой отец. Я - каменщик. (1) В прошлом году я поступил в Томский государственный архитектурно-строительный университет (заочное отделение). (2)

Моему отцу 52 года. Он работает на стройплощадке, он - инженер. Моя мать – на два года моложе моего отца. Она - экономист, но сейчас она не работает, она - домохозяйка. (3)

Мою сестру зовут Аня. Она - самая младшая в нашей семье. Она - учительница. Она преподает физику в одной из школ города. Ей очень нравится ее работа. Она не замужем. Мой старший брат Денис не живет с нами, он живет в Санкт-Петербурге и у него собственная семья.

Я женат. Мою жену зовут Елена. Ей 25 лет, она на год младше меня. Она учится в Политехническом университете. Она собирается стать менеджером. Моя маленькая дочь родилась три года назад. Каждое утро, кроме субботы и воскресенья, мы ведем ее в детский сад.

Мы живем в четырехкомнатной квартире в современном многоквартирном доме. В нашей квартире есть все современные удобства (4): газ, центральное отопление, холодная и горячая вода и телефон. Мы любим собраться вечером и говорить о последних новостях, смотреть телевизор или читать и учиться. У нас много друзей, которые часто приезжают, чтобы повидать нас в субботу вечером или в воскресенье.

6. Where do they work? – My father works at the construction site, he is an engineer. And my mother doesn’t work, she’s a housewife. My sister works in the local school, she’s a teacher. My brother is a journalist; he works in the Saint-Petersburg’s economic magazine.

7. Do you live with your parents? – Yes, I do. My wife, daughter and I live with my parents.

8. Do you live in a new or an old house? – We live in a modern block of flats.
