Used to
Used to + verb describes a past habit or state. We use 'used to' for something that happened regularly in the past but no longer happens
In the past I smoked, but I don't now. → I used to smoke.
I used to like it but now I don’t./ I didn’t used to like it but now I do.
+ I used to do. = I used to watch TV a lot. (=I watched TV regularly in the past, but I no longer do this)
-I did not use to do. = I didn’t use to watch this much TV.
?Did you use to do? = Did you use to eat a lot of sweets when you were a child. -Yes I did / No I didn't.
What did you use to do at the weekend? - I used to go swimming.
Who used to be your best friend? – John used to be my best friend.
Note: when there is did in the sentence, we say use to (without d)when there is no did in the sentence, we say used to (with d)
