Word Formation

In brief

Основа слова - его корень, основной элемент, который сохраняется для всех производных.

Префикс - элемент слова, который ставится перед корнем.

Суффикс - элемент слова, который ставится после корня слова.

Например:

корень = measure /мера/

суффикс = able - measurable/измеримый/.

префикс = im - immeasurable/огромный, неизмеримый/

Префикс обычно изменяет значение слова, а суффикс - часть речи.

Например, суффикс - able может изменить глагол на прилагательное (break- разбивать; breakable - бьющийся; unbreakable - небьющийся).

Префиксы - im, un меняют значение на противоположное:

able означает измеримый, т.е. поддающийся измерению,

immeasurable - неизмеримый, т.е. не поддающийся измерению.

В английском языке такой способ словообразования очень широко используется.

Например:

префикс + act + суффикс

react action reaction

interact active reactive

enact activity reactor

I Cуществительное от глагола:

Nouns Referring to people:

- er/or - придает значение: "тот, кто что-то делает"

Например: to teach /учить/ - a teacher/учитель, тот, кто учит/

to drive /вести машину/- a driver /водитель, тот, кто ведет машину/

-ee – часто эти существительные являются юридическими терминами

Например: To appoint / назначать/ - appointee/ получивший назначение/

to employ/ предоставлять работу/ - employee/работающий по найму/

-ant/- arian, - так же означает профессию человека

Например: to apply/ обращаться/- applicant- /кандидат/

to supply/ снабжать / - suppliant- /проситель/

noun + -an/-ian

Например: republic- republican/ республиканец/

magic- magician/ волшебник/

music- musician/ музыкант/

-ist + сущ., прил., глагол:

Например: arson/ поджог/ - arsonist/ поджигатель/

cello/ виолончель/ -celloist/ виолончелист/

loyal/ верный/- loyalist/ лоялист/

-ant/-ent

Например: to descend/ происходить / -descendent/ потомок/

to correspond/ переписываться / -correspondent/ лицо, с которым ведётся переписка/
