Клочкова Яна (1982, Сімферополь – Харків, плавання) – заслужений майстер спорту, дворазова олімпійська чемпіонка 2000 року, володарка Кубка Світу, рекордсменка світу на дистанції 400 м комплексного плавання. Вона є не тільки головною українською героїнею Ігор XXVII Олімпіади в Сіднеї, але однією з найсильніших спортсменок, які виступали на Іграх цієї Олімпіади. Подолавши неймовірну напругу – безсумнівну супутницю змагань такого рівня, Я. Клочкова впевнено перемогла зі світовим рекордом на одній з найважливіших дистанцій – 400 м комплексного плавання.

Ukraine
was declared a sovereign state on the 24th
of August 1991. It has its own territory, government, national
emblem, state flag and anthem. There are 24 administrative regions
and the Crimean autonomous republic in Ukraine. The head of the state
is the president. The legislative power belongs to the Parliament
that is called “Verhovna Rada”. The executive power belongs to
the government or the Cabinet of Ministers which is headed by the
Prime Minister. The judicial branch is represented by the Supreme
Court. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv.
Ukraine is situated in the south-east of Europe. The territory of Ukraine is 603, 700 square km. Its population is near 48 mln. Ukraine borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania. 95 % of the Ukrainian area is flat. There are the Carpathian Mountains in the west and the Crimean Mountains on the Crimean peninsula. The main rivers are the Dnieper, the Dniester, the Bug, the Donets and others. In the south Ukraine is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
The country has rich deposits of iron, manganese, coal, natural gas, oil and other mineral resources. They are a good base for development of different industries: coal and ore mining, iron and steel engineering, machine and ship building.
The climate of Ukraine is mostly moderately continental. Due to rich black soil and favourable climate Ukraine has always been an agrarian country. Traditionally crop-growing and cattle-breeding are being developed.
There are splendid natural conditions and old traditions in Ukraine to cultivate various kinds of sports. Ukraine does not only develop the sports movement throughout the country but actively and successfully participates in all top competitions abroad. By their skill and will-power Ukrainian athletes have surpassed their rivals in running or diving, in fencing or the pentathlon, in yachting or chess.
