Stone age and neanderthals
I. Paleolithic people were hunters and gather (1); by the Neolithic period people were taking first steps in farming, domesticate (2) of animals, weaving and pottery.
Neolithic man lived in Europe and west (3) Asia from about 6 000 BC to about 4 000 BC (later still in northern Europe). He is characterized by his making and use (4) of polished stone tools and utensils of grind (5) animal horn. He learned to domesticate animals and grow some crops. The best-known
present (6) of the human species of this period is Neanderthal man, whose skeleton was found in Neanderthal valley in Germany in 1856, hence the name.
Neanderthal people were not in the mainstream of descend (7) of man as we know him today from his ancestors, but who were nevertheless quite developed. They resemblance (8) in built present-day man, but were slightly smaller, stockier, and heavier-featured with a strong jaw and prominence (9) brow ridges on a slope (10) forehead. Recent evidence suggests their capable (11) for the sounds of speech. They were place (12) by, or possibly interbred with Homo sapience. A genetic analyze (13) performed in 1997 on the DNA extracted from fossil Neanderthal bones indication (14) that they shared a common ancestor with modern human not later than 600 000 years ago, suggesting they are not direct ancestors.
II. The general (1) accepted scientific theory is that we are the descend (2) of human beings who first came to Europe 40,000 years ago. It seems
suspect (3) that our arrival practically coincidence (4) with the extinction of the Neanderthals who had already settled there. Our ancestors might have been respond (5) for their extinction. The latest find (6), however, suggest a different cause. Injure (7) found on the Neanderthal remains point to a violence (8) death but there are no signs of human tools being used. Obvious (9), the Neanderthals did not adapt very well to new surround (10) or live as long as our ancestors, who were will (11) to migrate and learn from contact with other folks exist (12) then.
