2 Concerns and holdings of the rebublic of belarus

There are some concerns and holdings in The Republic of Belarus too. The Belarusian State Concern for Oil and Chemistry (Belneftekhim Concern) is one of the largest industrial complexes of the Republic of Belarus [10].

Belneftekhim was created in April 1997 and comprises enterprises and organizations for crude oil production, refining and transportation, oil product sales, chemistry and petrochemistry, several scientific, research and development, construction, repair and commissioning organizations, as well as a developed distribution network in foreign markets.

Belneftekhim manufactures over 500 kinds of petrochemical and chemical products. Belneftekhim's enterprises perform a full cycle of works related to crude oil exploration and production, its transportation, refining and oil product sales. Belarusian oil refineries feature a high technology level of oil refining efficiency and oil product quality meeting world standards.

Organizations of the petrochemical industry of Belarus produce:

  • mineral fertilizers (nitrogen and NPK);

  • over 300 types and sizes of tires in an amount of over 5 mln per year for cars, trucks and heavy haulers, buses, trolleybuses, road-building vehicles, tractors and farm machines;

  • polyester fibers and yarns;

  • low-density polyethylene both of base grades and compositions on its basis, as well as a wide range of acrylic fibers;

  • glass fiber and its products;

  • nylon fibers and yards, cord fabrics, as well as virgin nylon-6 and composite materials on its basis;

  • biodiesel fuel;

  • paints, varnishes and other products.

The present level of organization of production, continuous focus on technical upgrade and modernization of production facilities along with highly skilled workers and experts are the key components of stable work of Belneftekhim, which let the industry ensure a high technology and quality level of products [10].

All organizations of Belneftekhim work as per the system of international quality standards of the ISO 9000 series. As for the quality and environmental purity of motor fuel, the Republic of Belarus is the leader among the CIS countries. Much effort is being made for implementation ofenvironmental management standards of the ISO 14000 series and of the OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety assessment standard.

A priority of Belneftekhim's investment policy is realization of investment projects with high and resource-saving technologies, which are aimed at producing export and import-substituting goods.

Products of Belneftekhim organizations are exported to more than 90 countries of the world. Over 70 per cent of products manufactured by the petrochemical industry are sold to foreign markets.

Further development of the distribution network, search of new business partners, active promotion of petrochemical and chemical products to foreign markets is a strategic activity of Belneftekhim.

Belgospishcheprom is the Belarusian state food industry concern incorporating 57 food producers. It implements a coherent economic, technological and technical policy in the food industry. The domestic food industry is structured into 20 sub-industries manufacturing hundreds of food products.

In line with Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 1683 as of 2 November 2000 “Concerning the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom”, Belgospishcheprom’s major objectives are:

- to implement a coherent economic, technical and technological policy at Belarusian food companies regardless of their form of ownership;

- to create the conditions stimulating the production of food resources and agricultural raw materials; to improve the country’s food supply;

- to encourage Belarusian food companies to increase labor productivity to satisfy the domestic demand and boost overseas sales; to assist local authorities with agricultural zoning to ensure better supply of the food industry with raw materials;

- to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of affiliated companies, to expand the commodity distribution network and promote the exports of affiliated companies;

- to raise funds for technical upgrade and refitting;

-other tasks.

The Republic of Belarus is a forest power, and the strategic goal of the state is a rational and integrated use of forest resources of the country. The Belarusian Production and Trade Concern of timber, woodworking and pulp and paper industry "Bellesbumprom" combines the largest state and other legal entities, producing a wide range of timber products. It is a nonprofit organization and is subordinate to the Council of Ministers.

The concern "Bellesbumprom" includes 47 enterprises of different forms of ownership, which together are the largest consumer of timber prepared in the country.

The activity of the concern is divided into three sectors.

The logging sector includes procurement and hauling of timber, its cross-cutting, production of industrial wood and wood products, production of sawlog, veneer, matchbox and technological raw materials, resin extraction.

Sector of pulp and paper industry is specialized in the production of cardboard and paper products. There are over 20 types of paper and cardboard.

Sector of woodworking and furniture production is divided into two major branches, which are closely intertwined: on the one hand - it is the primary processing of wood raw material and production of elements for the furniture and construction industries (windows, doors, moldings, wood boards, etc.), on the other hand – production of furniture directly addressed to the end market.

The concern’s enterprises are the largest furniture manufacturers in the Republic of Belarus. The production program of furniture issue covers almost the entire range of this kind of products.

The extensive modernization is held in the organizations of the concern. Its main objective is to ensure the rational, cost-effective use of forest resources of the country through the creation of high-tech industries.

The products of the concern’s enterprises are exported to 38 countries of the world. In total exports is amounted to 71.5% in the CIS countries and 28.5% in far abroad countries. There is dealer network that operates businesses in different cities and countries [10].

The concern’s enterprises are the permanent members of the international specialized exhibitions. Their products are regularly exhibited at exhibitions in Belarus, Russia, CIS countries, Germany, France, Lithuania, Latvia and other countries.

The concern includes two nonprofit organizations: the National Career Development Center for executives and specialists of timber industry" and the State Enterprise "Belarusian forest company" which was created for the purpose of diversification of export deliveries, providing foreign trade and promotion of product of woodworking and pulp and paper companies of the concern on the external market. In the future, the company plans to develop also furniture trend.

Holding “Marko” Company” is the leader of footwear production in the Republic of Belarus. The company has the highest technological process of production, using the modern equipment and new technologies, a wide range of assortment in footwear collections.
