Review

Chief engineer – surveyor of Regional representivity of Ukrainian Maritime Register in Kherson. The methodical work concerning preventive running repair and etc. for the term of MAN, Mirliz, BxW and etc. diesels exploitation during the cadets’ shipboard training and students of the highest maritime institutions of the I-IV accreditation levels, as well recommended for implementation in the educational process when training specialists of maintenance of Ship’s Power Plants for marine transport and fishing fleet of Ukraine and in its principles for ensuring safe navigation and maintaining the system of skilled highly qualified maintenance of system of ship’s machinery, equipment and their continuous operation at sea and world ocean.

Methodical work clearly pays special attention of future and present marine specialists to limiting available rates (sizes) according to the world standards at assemblies and parts of ship’s diesels and the ship’s service systems at the level of International Conventions and Register of Ukraine requirements.

Methodical control of the repair works quality which is made by the ship repairing plants (native and foreign at ports of Ukraine and abroad. Afloat, in docks and on slips:

  1. Ships Power Plants

  2. Deck, cargo handling, fishing, anchor, life-boat gears

  3. Fish factory, equipment (fish processing, fish-mealing, fish oil heating, canned fishing)

  4. Fish factory refrigerating machinery > 700000 khal (Lindovske, Germany)

  5. Ship hull setting, hull plates

Actively worn hull spaces.

Performing of International STCW Conventions 78/95 with supplementaries, SOLAS-74 with supplementaries, MAR POL-74 with supplementaries, MMCU with resolutions in conditions of preserving, protecting of the environment, adhering to occupational safety and health.

Main and auxiliary ship internal combustion engines. Control for quality of repair works, which are made by ship repairing plants (in Ukraine and abroad).

Requirement when replacing parts:

  1. Replacing cylinder liners, material – gritty marten site cast iron – certificates for cylinder liners by the plants – products with the marks, punches stamps, of the qualification societies inspections (Registers of Russia, Ukraine, USA, German, English Lloyd’s, burean VERITAS – France and etc) and with the corresponding stamps, connecting rods, crank – shafts, bottom-end bolts, cylinder, gusset studs and etc.

  2. Visual confirmation of availability of honing and grinding of the cylinder liners inner glass up to 14 class accuracy and suitability to all constructive and technological dimensions after deconservative operations of parts and their compliance to parameters indicated in instructions of the plants – producers.

It is necessary for ship engineer to make measuring by stickmas or watch indicator the diameters of the cylinder liners corresponding to the dimensions indicated in the instructions on maintenance of the given diesels and their markings.

  1. Pistons of main (auxiliary) diesels

At the pistons of the main diesels – the piston crown – is a compound part of a material – steel, trunk (skirt) from a marten site gritty cast iron.

Clearance in grooves at induced compression or oil piston rings according to the instruction of the diesel-making plant on diesels maintenance. Caulked red copper rings in pistons skirt are lower than oil piston rings and at lower part before oil piston rings. Dimensions of red copper compound rings according to the instructions on diesel maintenance. Caulking in piston grooves is under dove-tail at running-in a pair of pistons - the cylinder liner of the red copper ring mustn’t get at of the piston surface limits not more than 0.2 mm, and also for elimination of scratches and sticking of pistons in cylinder liners.

Pistons of main (auxiliary) diesels.

The piston crowns are from the alloyed steel, trunk (skirt) – from marten site gritty cast-iron and other brands.

  1. Piston rings

Compression rings for tightening of cylinders must have thermal clearance at the junctions complying to the instructions on ICE maintenance. Material is a cast-iron possessing elasticity and almost not having the balancing deformation for ensuring tighten adherence of piston rings to the cylinder liner inner surface both compression and oil piston rings.

According to the instructions of diesel-making plants it is possible fitting on each piston by one special chrome ring, which acts as running-in and antiworn one, ensuring well tightening and is fitted first also at the outer surface of compression rings which is adhered to the inner surface of the cylinder liner the turning of the grooves with the red copper rings at width of 1/3 part from the width of compressing ring 0.2 mm are pressed into for ensuring good running-in a pair of cylinder liners – piston with compression and oil piston rings thus ensuring good running-in of cylinder liners and prevent sticky of piston in ICE cylinder liners.

Oil-splitting rings are made of cast iron with the following chroming and are installed by one in the first groove from the bottom of the piston crown to equal distribution of oil for lubricating the cylinder liner.

Oil-splitting rings have cutting grooves around the perimeter of the ring with leaving of adhering belts to the inner surface of the cylinder liner. Chrome oil-splitting rings perform the role of running-in and antiworn assignment ensuring the better tightening and this ring is fitted the first upper from the combination chamber. Cuttings along the perimeter of the ring with leaving adhering belts in the form of an inclined parallelepiped with inclination of adhering belts at 30.35º.
