1.2 Starting Grafis

Step-by-step guide to starting Grafis

⇒ Click the relevant icon on the desktop or double-click onto Grafis.exe in the folder\Grafis

⇒Open the File pull-down menu and click on New... or Open...

⇒ Select the required measurement system

⇒ For the option Open…: Select drive and collection

⇒ For the option Open... : Double-click onto an drives according to hard and software existing style or enter a new style name in the File name field and press <Enter>.

The examples and exercises relate to the system and Optimass (basis_d). The information also applies to then the required collection. You can recognise all other measurement systems.

As soon as you have selected a measurement system, more information about it is displayed in the right part of the screen. The selected measurement system is started by pressing <ENTER> or double with double-click with on the respective line or clicking Select Measurement System.

In the case of Open..., after having started a measurement system, the Open style dialogue appears (Picture 1-1).

In the Open style dialogue first selects the drive collections and then the required collection. You can recognize collection at the icon depicting a folder and a clothes hanger. As styles can only be generated within a collection. The File name field in Picture 1-1 remains locked. Once a collection has been selected with duble-click a new file or style name can be entered (Picture 1-2).

Create a new collection

Select the drive where the collection should be created. If applicable change with to the layer of the collection and open with the new collection. The collection directory can be structured with up to 7 levels. In the collection Alpha a subcollection Alpha1, a sub-subcollection Alpha2 and so on can be created. The number of levels is set in the file GRAFIS / GRAFIS.INI in the section [OPTIONS] via the value for MDL_FOLDERS. Values between 0 and 7 are permitted.

Delete styles and collections

The Open Style dialogue allows also deleting collections and styles. In addition assign the collection or the style and click The style, respectively the collection with all styles is deleted after a security check. Note: If Grafis can’t delete the drive, are yet another files (collection = account/ folder) situated in the according account.

Start early enough with a constant backup from your collections and styles on CD-Rom, streamer or others.

Only then your data could be restored, if your hard drive has a defect, for example.

Naming a new style

The name for a style or a collection may consist of enter the style name the numbers 0...9, the letters A...Z and the special characters “-“ [hyphen] and “_“ [underscore]. The style name A03HGTRD would be correct. However, you should apply content relevant and the style is generated systematic names as it is difficult to keep track of your styles, otherwise.

Start Grafis and select File | Open…. Open the new style “Start” in the collection Alpha. Double-click on the collection Alpha and enter the style name «Start». After having clicked on Open or pressing <ENTER> the style is generated and can be edited.
