  1. 10.4 Accelerator cable nipple (a) and decelerator cable nipple (b)

    Slip the adjuster out of the bracket and detach the cable nipple from the carburettor throttle cam (see illustration).

  2. Now unscrew the front (decelerator) cable holder nut fully and slip the holder out of the bracket and detach the cable nipple from the throttle cam (see illustrations 10.3 and 10.4). Withdraw the cables from the bike noting the correct routing of each cable.

  3. Unscrew the rear (decelerator) cable elbow nut from the throttle twistgrip, and slacken the front (accelerator) cable nut (see illustration).

  4. Remove the two handlebar switch screws and pull off the upper half of the switch housing then detach the cable nipples from the pulley (see illustration).

  5. Detach the lower half of the switch housing from the handlebar and withdraw the

decelerator elbow and cable (see illustration). Thread the switch housing off the accelerator elbow and withdraw the cable (see illustration). Mark each cable to ensure it is connected correctly on installation.

Installation

9 Fit the accelerator cable elbow into the front socket of the lower half of the switch housing and thread the housing onto it (see illustration 10.8b). Lubricate the cable nipple with multi-purpose grease and install it in the throttle pulley. Fit the decelerator cable into the rear socket and tighten the nut (see illustration 10.8a). Lubricate the cable nipple with multi-purpose grease and install it in the pulley (see illustration 10.7b). Fit the lower half of the switch housing over the pulley and onto the handlebar.

  1. Fit the upper half of the switch housing onto the handlebar, making sure the pin inside the housing locates in the hole in the handlebar, and install the screws, tightening them securely. Ensure the twistgrip turns freely and adjust the alignment of the cable elbows.

  2. Feed the cables through to the carburettors, making sure they are correctly routed. The cables must not interfere with any other component and should not be kinked or bent sharply.

  3. Lubricate the decelerator cable nipple with multi-purpose grease and fit it into the front socket on the carburettor throttle cam (see illustration 10.4). Fit the cable holder into the bracket, thread the nut onto the

holder below the bracket and tighten the nut against the bracket (see illustration 10.3).

  1. Lubricate the accelerator cable nipple with multi-purpose grease and fit it into the rear socket on the carburettor throttle cam (see illustration 10.4). Fit the accelerator cable adjuster into the bracket and thread the lower nut onto the adjuster. Turn the adjuster locknut (above the bracket) until the specified amount of cable freeplay is obtained (see procedure in Chapter 1). Tighten the lower nut against the bracket.

  2. Operate the throttle to check that it opens and closes freely. Turn the handlebars from lock to lock to make sure the cables don't cause the steering to bind.

  3. Install the carburettors (if displaced), and the fuel tank (see Sections 6 and 2).

  4. Start the engine and check that the idle speed does not rise as the handlebars are turned. If it does, the throttle cables are routed incorrectly. Correct the problem before riding the motorcycle.

  1. Remove the fuel tank (see Section 2).

  2. Slacken the choke outer cable bracket screw and free the cable from the bracket on the left-hand carburettor, then detach the inner cable nipple from the choke linkage
